maybe. I'd be way more excited about a 3D Dot Game Heroes sequel (on PC).Exhuminator wrote:You'd be excited about King's Field V if it was on PC.

Re: E3 2016
I mean, the thing with the new IPs is that a teaser doesn't tell you that much about the game, y'know. It's easier to know what the game will be like when you have previous games to serve as a basis for the gameplay when watching the trailer - you might see that this is different, but this looks similar etc - you have more context.Exhuminator wrote:Good to see some new IPs, even if it seemed like all I was hearing about in this thread was people being excited about sequels.
I have zero hype yet for the Kojima thing with the naked guy, because I have no idea what it is or what you do.

I hope it's a game about standing on a beach naked playing with umbilical cords and making sand castles. I would seriously respect the shit out of Kojima forever if he did that level of subversion.alienjesus wrote:I have zero hype yet for the Kojima thing with the naked guy, because I have no idea what it is or what you do.

Nah. Just someone who prefers retro games to modern. I'm in the same boat. I'm way more interested in what Atari homebrews will drop next year or what we'll see next on GOG.com than I am in E3.jmbarnes101 wrote:I think I'm becoming a curmudgeon.
I will get dat new Zelda no matter what though.

Not at E3 but announced yesterday - Morphies Law. A team based FPS where every time you shoot an enemy, the part you hit shrinks on them and grows on you. So get a bunch of headshots, you get a gigantic head.

Ditto. I don't really have much interest in these games. I didn't play their seventh generation predecessors, and I probably wont' play these either. There are just too many game in my backlog, and the games that interest me the most are the indie games (that look and play like the games of my youth).BoneSnapDeez wrote:I'm way more interested in what Atari homebrews will drop next year or what we'll see next on GOG.com than I am in E3.

To me, it seems like there are a good number of new IPs being highlighted, even if we knew about some prior to E3. Some of the others - at least so far - seem to not just be more of the same. God of War and Resident Evil VII, from Sony's show, look to be changing things up a bit.Exhuminator wrote: Other than the innovative possibilities for VR, nothing yet has excited me. Ever prettier games reiterated in ever protracted series doesn't turn me on.
Personally, I think a lot of stuff on show this year looks solid. There's been a focus on games, not trying to highlight accessories or streaming services. Sony's show barely stopped to remind us that the PSVR was coming, before showing games that'll be on it.
Plenty of actual gameplay has been on show, probably highly scripted, but still good. In turn, what I haven't noticed (I haven't caught all of the shows) is the same attempts at shock value. Instead, they seem to be highlighting player choice or strategy, along with creating an emotional core.
Last time we had a God of War game reveal, it was defined by how graphically it portrayed Kratos bashing some elephant creatures head open and hearing it cry/etc. This time, it was his interaction with (presumably) his son.
Arguably, a lot of that is probably looking at the success of games like the Last of Us or the Witcher III and trying to do similar things. Still, to me, it's a higher standard to be shooting for.
We're still seeing smaller games shown/shown more at E3 too, just not as much on the main stage. Sony had a new trailer for Bound (their ballerina 3D platform thing), Abzu being shown again (and should be released soon), and so on.
Admittedly, there has been little newly-revealed that particularly grabbed me. Plenty of things that look promising though. /shrug Relative to the past several years, the show itself seems to be fairly good.

Re: E3 2016
you guys will like 2016 games once you consider them retro.
When do YOU consider a game to be retro?

For me at least, we're at a point with technology where it's getting harder to look at something new and say, "Well that looks interesting," because it all looks the same level of super amazing. It was almost kind of numbing. I'm sure there are plenty of games I'll think are cool but right now I don't know enough about most of them and they just kind of blur together.Exhuminator wrote:Good to see some new IPs, even if it seemed like all I was hearing about in this thread was people being excited about sequels.
VR is also making its influence felt with a lot of first-person, ultra-realistic designs tailored to it and it's not everybody's cup of tea. I feel like VR is going to go through these growing pains where everything will be expected to be as real and immersive as possible before developers start to realize they can have fun with it.
