E3 2016

Post by Xeogred »

Caught most of Bethesda's show:

Quake Champions, getting a nasty free to play vibe from the reveal. It definitely doesn't seem to be anything that'll have a campaign or be a true reboot of the originals or anything. I wonder how it'll fare, since Doom (4)'s multiplayer wasn't that good.

Skyrim "Special Edition" coming to PS4/Xbone/PC with mod support on consoles like Fallout 4. I missed the details though, not sure if it'll be 60 FPS on consoles?

Prey, yep the long standing rumors that Arkane has taken reigns of the IP have become truth. The teaser trailer was pretty cool, but looks like it's turned into a completely different project. I was getting 2001 A Space Odyssey vibes from it, rather than some cyberpunk Blade Runner in space thing the old videos were giving off. Either way, I think it's in good hands with Arkane and they'll do some creative cool things with it.

Dishonored 2, well as expected, it's going to be high tier GOTY contender material for me and Deus Ex Mankind Divided will certainly have some tough competition in its genre. It looks incredible.

Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb hosted the pre and after shows, lol. Cool to see them together again.

Quake is looking like id's version of Overwatch. They even said as such with characters having their own skills. It could be good it could be forgettable. Some people at the Doom Reddit were suspicious Doom's multiplayer was under-cooked because Quake was being worked on and it seems like that ended up being the case. Honestly I don't mind them ignoring single player if they deliver an excellent arena shooter. I'm at a point where I prefer games being one or the other instead of wasting effort trying to do a good job at both.

The Skyrim thing is disappointing to me because Morrowind or Oblivion would be much better served with a remake though that's a pipe dream of course.

It was nostalgic seeing Sessler and Webb even though I just wanted them to shut up and get to the games.

Yeah, I think Doom's multi was even outsourced? Thought I heard that recently.

There were many rumors about new Wolfenstein news, looks like the "directory listing" from the start of the show may have a possible hint with "New Colossus"

So, if Quake is multi only, I guess more Wolfenstein could be their answer for something that's pure single player like the last one.

I just replayed a bit of Skyrim on PC last year, but I have to say, this new edition looks kind of cool because I guess they really did remaster some of it and redo some of the assets. So it's more than just a resolution upgrade. I saw the reveal again in the after show though and they don't say anything about framerate, so I wonder how that is...

I'm a little irked at the new Prey being "Prey". Can we please stop with this same name trend?

On Bioware news, Mass Effect Andromeda is looking awesome.

I'm cool w/ another Wolfenstein.

Quake Champions - sigh. I didn't want another Quake "Arena," game; I wanted a Quake 5. But whatever. I'll hold off on opinions until it's a real thing.

PS, I like how even Bethesda is referring to the new Doom as "Doom 4" in that screenshot.

E3 is becoming more bare-bones each year, and I'm okay with that. Last year's Shenmue 3 reveal seems really silly in hindsight.

I just pre-ordered the Skyrim re-release on PS4, but I've yet to be really excited for anything. I'm not even "really" excited for that; I just think it will be fun to replay Skyrim, and I never bought any of the DLC anyway, so I figured why not?

Yeah, I'll probably get it. Skyrim isn't outstanding or anything (the OST is), but it's a nice filler game for me so it'll come in handy. I kind of had trouble getting it to run well on PC, no mods even. It was just kind of finicky sometimes. So maybe the PS4 version will be a little more stable and well, should just be less of a headache to play.

Xbox Play Anywhere. I'm not too interested in Gears, but I do like the idea of Microsoft finally realizing that the PC and the Xbox aren't going to cannibalize each other.

Yeah I've been all for that direction they're taking, because I care so little about the One by this point. More reason to never get one? I'll take it!

I think I'd only ever get one if the 360 backward compatibility keeps increasing and I could virtually replace my 360. I guess I should check out a list sometime and see what I own that could be played on a One right now. How does XBLA stuff work with this though?

Well, this is really interesting. They've got people on PC for Forza along with the Xbox One people to show off the crossplay but they didn't have a problem with people demoing like you would on a PC. Again, this speaks well to Microsoft not making PC gamers second class citizens.
