Ok enough with the price gouging. We all know re sellers and owners of these games who flip and pay a fortune to have them have destroyed our hobby in a way and I don't see it getting any better. For me as an example I have to spend about 100.00 and up for a complete copy of r type delta for the ps1 because some people paid 70,80,90,100+ dollars and now it's up to 170.00 for a complete copy. Now for me to get it I have to sell my stuff in order to get it.
Anyways let's all agree that our days of finding good decent games are now in the past for the most part. Even b and c titles is up there in price.
Now I just bought a dog bone nes controller and I must say after I just beat mega man 3 again but I never knew about the high jump cheat and I beat the game like that and it was more fun than beating the game originally.
I also played both power blades and shadow of the ninja and that sucks that it only has one life. I hate that in games. I don't use save states because I try to make the games feel like I own the original carts to keep it as authentic as I can and the games are really hard.

Yeah, if you hold... I think it's right on the second controller, Mega Man can jump really high. He also won't die if you go down a pit. You can let your life drain, then jump back out, and be invincible. It's actually pretty insane.

As for collecting... well, if people are willing to shell out that much money for the games, then that's on the buyers. I hate that so many games have gotten so high in value, but it's like trying to find rare baseball cards or stuff like that. The stock isn't getting any higher, and many folks have already added games to their collection (like me) or snapped up everything they could find in the hopes it would be valuable some day (like now). Yes, it sucks, but that's the way markets are sometimes.

I couldn't agree any more. This is why everdrives are a beautiful thing. It plays smoothly and on your own system.
The only thing I collect is ps1 and now it's getting bad for even that system. But I gotta say I tried a game my friend had it was blue and called raid 2020. I thought it was a good game but when I played it today omfg that game is bad

Thankfully the majority of my NES collecting happened in the early 2000's when even the super expensive not-so-hidden-anymore gems were only a few dollars along with every other NES game. I'm pretty content in that I have most NES games I'd ever want.

The only game I wish I could have found but didn't was Little Samson which will never be worth its value to me.

Yeah, I'm pretty much done too.
A few glaring gaps in my cart collection; the 1st Mega Man and 1st Castlevania come to mind, maybe Bubble Bobble. To be fair, I do have those games on other releases/collections.

The "me" of past decades keeps saying "you didn't buy it for $3, what makes you want to pay more now?" Although, money was much tighter for me then.

A lot of my NES time is actually spent in emulation anyways (except for this junky famiclone that I have 30 or so carts for as well as a couple multi-in-ones; has terrible video quality though).

i ordered the 150 in 1 (the one that has rockman 1-6) a few weeks back and still awaiting for its arrival. but with it, i feel essentially done in collecting carts. sure its a pirate multicart but i think its the next best thing that is not emulation.

I think "retro gaming" will be a bubble like any other, and it will eventually pop. I think it will take a while for it to pop, but it will eventually. Just look at Beanie Babies; those things were pretty much cuddly gold for a while, and now they're mostly worthless aside from a few specific ones.

Twenty years from now, I don't think they'll be at quite the premium they are now. Of course, that may just be wishful thinking, but it's better to be an optimist than a pessimist, no?

I'm going to just avoid aliexpress and keep an eye on ebay. My personal time vs price and trusting a Chinese site I'd pay like $25 shipped maybe as high as $30 just to get one of those new using paypal and a US seller with that Super Games 150-in-1.

I'd never consider that thing at all if this were like 3-4 years ago, but the filching and crap I'd rather pay a pirate for a multicart than pay a crook thousands of dollars for the contents of that cart because of market shenanigans as they deserve no reward. At least some effort, minimal or not went into making those new boards/chips and the general setup of that 150-in-1.

...and yes it's a bubble, just a very slow moving sticky bubble like molasses. It will turn, twist, wobble, go up and down a bit, but eventually it'll stretch to a point and burst. I may not even care about buying the stuff anymore at that rate, but I'll look back fondly and looking at people whining about their losses and laugh in their digital faces (or in person if luck would have it.)
