For the escort missions, take advantage of the doorways. Telepipes can also help in sticky situations.
Yes, I am!

Single Player, No online and No Co-Op. I'm a Warrior who was using a Sword for the beginning of the game. Now, I'm a Warrior using a Pistol and the game is MUCH easier and MUCH better. I haven't tried the boss yet as I'm only 22 and I want to be at 25, but my guide says your escort person is just completely incompetent.

And, Congratulations AJ on beating Dragon Warrior on the NES. Wear that like a badge of honor.

And don't give up hope on the series just yet. Remember, DQ1 is basically the first JRPG ever, so it's archaic and obtuse because it is the first of its kind. DQ2 is MUCH better. You get two computer controlled characters and DQ3 lets you create your own party.

Take a DQ break, but don't give up on the series just after the first one.

Yes, guns completely break that game. That's why I chose to be a ranger for this playthrough: guns from the get-go.

And lulz original Dragon Warrior. Legendary game, but I don't think I'll ever play it again. At least not on NES. Too tedious.

If I'd hand to get to level 21 I probably would have cried.

Yep, the original Dragon Warrior is tedious. Now, it has its charm, but there's no question every game after it is far superior in size, scope, and pacing.

Much like Bone, I'll likely never play through the NES version again... but I did play through multiple times when I was younger. My cart save has me at... *checks save dump* Level 23. I found out many years later that the best place to grind is in the town of Hauksness and beat up that Axe Knight that guards... Erdrick's Armor? Can't remember, but it's faster than trying to farm Metal Slimes.

The gbc port is so much smoother. Plus it comes with dq2 on the cart. I didn't go back and try the nes original until much later in life and yeah I'll most likely never play through that version

I'm not convinced. That Axe Knight hits hard, so you'll need to use MP to heal and make trips back to the northwest town to heal a lot.

The enemies near the metal slimes give a consistant 30+ exp (compared to the knights 54) and hit way less hard so that Erdrick's Armour easily is enough to keep you healed. You never need to make a trip to replenish. Way easier.

Yeah no nearby place to heal near da knight. I did my grinding outside the final town.

By the way, the YouTube World of Longplays video for DW, which edits out the grinding, is an hour and 45 minutes.

a while back I started Mass Effect. Strangely, it didn't hold my interest.

I decided to start playing ME2 this weekend, after reading about it in an older issue of PC Gamer. For some reason this installment has really sucked me in.

I beat DQ1 on GBC and it was a great time. Yeah it's less grindy, and better balanced, and is a far funner game for those reasons.

Nayuta: Endless Trails - I'm 4 hours in and really enjoying this one so far. The simplest way to explain the gameplay thus far is like a hybrid of Threads of Fate and Ys Seven. I also find this game to be incredibly relaxing, to the point that it has put me to sleep a few times. But that's more the soothing music and muted color palette, because the gameplay itself is engaging enough.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

There are some major annoyances that are streamlined or removed in the sequel and the second also had a stronger story, so it's not too surprising.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
