I keep stuff I'm likely to replay and sell the stuff I won't miss. While I get the appeal of collecting, I see no point in hanging onto games I don't enjoy.

So far I've only gotten rid of ones that I didn't enjoy playing (unless my boyfriend wants to play it), but I've been debating a bit about if I also want to sell games that I might not play again. Not that I've been debating too much about that though, since it's not like I've played most of my games anyway :|
I'm the same way. Unless I really didn't/don't like a game, I'll keep it. Especially if I've had the patience to completely beat a game, keeping it on the shelf is sort of like a trophy on a wall in a sense. I also, having beat them, can give a full opinion on them, and by keeping them can lend them to a friend or someone who I want to share in my experience of really liking that game.

Anyway, the basic thing is, all games I have are ones I either beat and enjoyed, haven't played at all yet, or intend to beat. I don't keep games I have no intention of ever playing again (i.e. bad games).

I have a very small collection, but I think I keep my games more often then selling so I think I'd fit closer to the "Put it back on the shelf, I might replay it someday" bracket. That being said, there have been some games that I like to sell immediately after beating them, like maybe the game is readily available on multiple platforms and won't become some sort of hard to come by collector's item.

The games I keep that I've beaten have some sort interesting aesthetic to them not present in other games, or have some sort of huge amount of nostalgia to me that I could not get rid of them. For instance, perhaps I like the ost, or love the art style of the game. Also, some games are so good in my eyes that I want to pass them onto my future children to show them a, "real game" in my eyes. I do always plan to replay the games I beat at some point, though

Do you think it's worth buying physical games today?

Yes I like having a physical copy because there is less overall risk of losing access to it in the future due to abandoned services or dead hard drives. Plus it's fun to display and organize your collection if your into that type of thing.

Do you think of buying games as an investment or just a hobby?

Buying as an investment is a horrible idea the market is all over the place and you'll end up wasting a lot of money buying crap you don't really want just because it's a good deal. That being said I do like hunting for game deals and the idea that my collection is worth some money. However I honestly wouldn't mind if the market tanked because that would just mean more cheap games for me to pick up  .

Is it ethical to hold on to games you've already beaten, if you never plan to play them again?*

All is fair in love, war, and video game hoarding/collecting. That being said part of my reason for wanting a library this big is to preserve and share it. However I don't have many people to share it with due to my lack of friends and disinterested family :P.

I don't think there are any games that I've beaten that I honestly plan to never revisit. Even the bad ones are fun to go back to on occasion. Although there are some junk sports games I never intend to play that have found their way into my library, but they are so cheap that I don't really feel like bothering to get rid of them and a few of them have other aspects that draw my attention such as PS1 long boxes, Demos, and etc.

Remember that copy of Kirby Air Ride I beat earlier this month? I just sold that sucker for $65 on eBay. That $65 is worth more to me than ever replaying that game again. I also sold that beat up used copy of Double Dash!! for $50. Point is, I don't mind liquidating games I'll never play again to buy games I will.

- Do you think it's worth buying physical games today?
Yes, I wish more digital games would get physical releases too.

- Do you think of buying games as an investment or just a hobby?
Both. I've cleaned house several times since I moved out years ago, but videogames are the one thing I never ever touch or sell off. I still hold onto regret with some of the losses over the years. Like my mom selling a JVC off and several Genesis/Sega CD games for $10 TOTAL back in the 90's when I can only imagine how much this was worth. Selling Super Mario RPG only to buy a crappy cart again years later that erased my final save when I loaded it up to go fight Culex. Wondering if my N64 wouldn't have been retired for the last decade, if I never sold 20 some games for Armored Core 2 when the PS2 was new. Somehow selling or misplacing Megaman Legends 2. etc. NOTHING BUT REGRETS!

Well... okay by investment here, I mean an investment in my own future so I have options haha.

- Is it ethical to hold on to games you've already beaten, if you never plan to play them again?**Theory being since physical games are of limited quantity, every dust collecting one sitting on a shelf unplayed, is keeping someone who might actually want to play it from doing so.
Yes. I'm selfish. But don't be that guy that only buys Suikoden 2 to put it on the shelf and never play it. At least beat them!

Admittedly in the end, I have created a "bottom tier" shelf, literally have this bottom corner on my big shelf where I put stinky games that I can't really see myself replaying, or never finished. So I could maybe do without these, but still have a nice varied library and a backlog to knock out. However I might only consider this with newer stuff. I feel there's a bit more value and satisfaction to holding onto older games. So this "bad" corner is just made up of 360 and PS3 stuff, and Zombi U.

I threw Peter Jackson's King Kong in the trash. I don't feel sorry about that one.

Definitely put it back on the shelf to replay, though sometimes "I'm just a collector"

AHhhhh now I remember why I haven't been collecting Gamecube games lately :| Especially annoying since I haven't gotten a chance to pick up a copy of either (and I know I love Double Dash too bleh).

Well to be honest both it, snes, and n64 are a little ridiculous....the games are great but the prices holy cow....

Yeah, that's true. I guess for me it's especially shocking/annoying since the Gamecube is what I had growing up, so it's a bit crazy to me that the prices have already risen so much.
