How's your NES gaming going? What's your NES library like?

Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, to be sure. That was the first Famicom game I ordered once I got the console, and it's still my favorite one on there (at least in terms of games that were only Famicom).

You should get on that U.Four.ia already, it's great.Sarge wrote:I think it's safe to assume my NES gaming is going quite well as of late. An EverDrive-N8 will do that.
I do, however, need to mine some new territory. I find myself consistently going back to my favorites. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but there are some unsung classics that I need to give a shot. Battle of Olympus was part of that, but there's certainly some platformers that I still need to play through, like U-four-ia.
So if someone had to throw out a random... let's say Famicom game to make things more obscure, what would you recommend? I'd prefer action-oriented games. For whatever reason, I can't bring myself to invest a lot of time in the myriad Dragon Quest clones on the system, for example.
I just won a physical cartridge of it on eBay. Has to make it here from down under though, hopefully there will be no issues.

Cocoron is an interesting one that I think gets overlooked. It was made by Akira Kitamura, the true father of Mega Man. It focuses on character customization and it's kind of bizarre. Definitely worth a look though.

I've been getting into both Famicom and Famicom Disk System JRPGs lately. Good stuff, and for cheap.

Finally got around to popping open one of my NESs and enabling the expansion audio. Sounds pretty good. VRC6 seems solid on the N8, as does Sunsoft 5B for Gimmick. FDS sounds pretty awful, though. I'm also looking forward to VRC7 support. There's someone supposedly working on it other than krikzz, so we'll see how that works out. The Sunsoft 5B is pretty decent because someone else worked up a mapper for it, too.

I've been playing a healthy rotation of Super Mario Bros. 3, Kirby's Adventure (introducing it to my daughter), and Shatterhand (NeoGAF club).
It amazes me just how good Super Mario Bros. 3 is to this day.
It's my first time playing Shatterhand and it kicks ass.
Kirby's Adventure is definitely a good choice to introduce young children to the wonders of video games.

I've got my 4 year old girl on Kirby's Dream Land at the moment, it's a bit tricky so I'm holding off on Kirby's Adventure since it has tools while the other has no time limit and just sucking up stuff and blowing it out.
Truth of it is I've offloaded just a couple more NES titles of mine into the sales bin and a couple sold already. I've got 56 games left, 2 bootlegs though if you include Famicom that's another 16.

You can see it's fairly cherry picked over to solid stuff and a few kid era games that I still find aged ok and are enjoyable.

It's not a famicom-only title, but I just recently dove into Snake, rattle, and roll. What a cool NES game. If you haven't played it already, don't wait another day.
