oh yeah I agree with this, so many good genesis titles at low prices. I think the most expensive cart I've bought was shining force, and even that was only approaching the $30 watermark.marlowe221 wrote:Most of the Genesis/Mega Drive library falls into this category! Sure, there are a few standouts that demand high prices but it's nothing like the SNES market these days. A lot of the most popular (and best) titles can be had well under $20 USD. Raise the cap to $25 per game and you have 95-99% of the library covered.
Also, the Genesis is one of the few systems where you can still find sellers in the wild who haven't looked up the games on ebay. About a year ago, I got TMNT Hyperzone Heist loose for $5 at a booth in one of those faux-antique marts. I also scored a boxed copy of Gaiares for $10 a few months ago at a permanent flea market booth when we were visiting friends on the other side of the state.
Genesis collecting is where it's at.

A surprisingly cheap PAL game for NES, considering most of the NES prices in over here:

And some others:

Unfortunately I can't collect Sega stuff that at least doesn't have a box. Believe me I'll still take loose carts for cheap, but even CB games missing the manual I can't stand haha. Japanese Saturn games! Sure most shmups are still a little outrageous, but fighters are so super cheap. Same goes for Dreamcast - I just ordered both Marvel vs Capcom games for about $6 each, CiB.
I review (mostly old) games at: The Annals of Retrodom.
Re: The "How is this game still cheap?" Thread
Agreed and it's the ONLY way I buy them, nice labels and all on their lonesome. Most of the library falls into the pricing of old original Gameboy with things really primarily falling into the $3-30 category, more weight in the middle or lower end. Not much breaks the $30-50 range. Maybe I'm off, but I think the high end is $150 with MUSHA and stuff like Crusader of Centy will break a $100. Buying Genesis (like Gameboy) is one of the few escapes left from the Nintenard/collectard rampaging woody going on with NES/SNES stuff and N64/GC to a lesser degree. Genesis gets a lack of respect for whatever reason from Sega screwing their base in the 90s to it just not being hip and trendy like Nintendo since Sega is dead (hardware wise) and Gameboy gets crapped on because portable games are supposedly small, boring and crap. It's the big reason I got into the Genesis last November -- lots of stuff I've never touched, cheap enough to challenge oneself to explore and get a new experience that's not Nintendo-like at all.marlowe221 wrote:Most of the Genesis/Mega Drive library falls into this category! Oh and another cheap good Broderbund NES game -- Raid on Bungling Bay created by none other than Will Wright of Sim City.

I forgot to mention the "nintendo world cup/super spike v'ball" cart. These are two extremely fun sports games with chibi characters and over the top arcadey style gameplay for the nes.
I usually find the compilation cart for about $4. Individually they are both about that price. Also they are 4p compatible so bust out the multitap and you are definitely getting your money's worth.

YES!Tanooki wrote:NES-Crystalis -- As if it needs explaining, it kind of out Zelda'd Zelda. Solid overhead adventure with leveling up mechanics and some nice gear to find or buy. Seems to sit for years in the $10-15 range. Came out in 1990, even a complete copy won't set you back more than $30-50, at or below retail 25 years ago. A solid game yet oddly commands little.
Seriously, Crystalis is one of my favorite games of all time. I think I actually sold the game at one point, just to buy it back the next year or so.
Was going to mention Wonder Boy III for master System, but I see the price jacking already claiming that one (only ~30, but still). I could've sworn it was in the $15 CIB range not too long ago.
Also, ElkinFencer mentioned Dragon Spirit. That game is so much more enjoyable on the NES (yes, I suck at shmups
I have nothing to add... to the list.
My next NES purchase may have to be Batman. I've played it emulated and even have a Famicom bootleg with the game on it, but it does deserve a dedicated place in the collection.
Deadly Towers too, you guys are making me want things.

Your memory is right, last time I had a SMS was within 2 years and I bought it for $15 complete (shipped no less) on ebay. A few Sega games (select few) are getting punk'd by people in the reseller community, but not bad, it's mostly just smaller supply and Sega fans since it was in far less distribution than much Nintendo ever had out (1st/3rd party.) You want evil, look into SegaCD, any game of decent to excellent quality easily creeps up into or above the $100 mark and the turds aren't even too cheap as I looked very recently as I was curious after getting my Genesis in November.nightrnr wrote:[quote="Tanooki"

I think my Sega CD collecting days are over.
I have most of what I want, and may even have a couple extra copies that I could barter with for other titles some day.
I regret never finding a good deal on Keio Flying Squadron (I like classic cute-em-ups
Also still bummed about my near destroyed copy of Snatcher (don't pity me, I paid very little for it
I always thought I could find a decent deal on a "disc only" copy of the game (since the case/manual is in good enough shape), but NOPE!
And now we at the exact opposite of the topic

SeanBaby. Before he wrote for Cracked, he was just a standard comedy blogger (before that was a thing that was standard)... he wrote a couple fantastic lists about "Worst video games of all time" and "Worst NES games of all time" and IIRC Deadly Towers was #1 worst NES game. I bought it based on that review alone.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Deadly Towers get a lot of shit online, I've noticed, but I really enjoyed that game.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
