I guess if you judge a game by its technical merits more than its gameplay, then those things would matter. It's like reviewers back in the day saying King's Field sucks because it moves slow and has unusual controls, while ignoring everything that's awesome about it.
From what I've read and heard from reliable sources, Shadow Tower is a supremely atmospheric and wholeheartedly tough dungeon crawler. If it runs like junk I can deal with that, as long as it nails the challenge and immersion. I plan to find out this year. Gotta take a break for a minute though.
