Ah, if this game is only available via Steam that explains why I hadn't heard of it. Maybe GOG'll pick it up someday.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Whenever I get on Steam I apply labels like "anime", "RPG", and "female protagonist". Then I search prices low to high. That's how I find stuff like that.

Your wish has been granted. This shall be the next game.Ack wrote: Also, I'd love to see you do a write up on the Super Famicom Magic Knights Rayearth RPG. Not because it's a great RPG, but I played through it over a decade ago, so it would be a nice walk down memory lane to read someone else's thoughts.

Disappointed to see this game isn't all that great. It's fun to read about your dive into English-patched JRPGs, I went through the same thing at the same time, I remember being awe-struck that there was a Slayers game (which is actually pretty good IIRC but that may be because I wanted it to be good so badly)BoneSnapDeez wrote:Magic Knight Rayearth (Super Famicom)

It's really no surprise that Rayearth features such generic gameplay. Pandora Box cranked out three of these games in 1995 alone! The other four were developed by Sega, who apparently really liked the series. There's even a limited-edition MKR Game Gear system.
The Saturn game ended up being pretty cool though. It's generally called an action-RPG, but in actuality it's more of a Zelda-like action-adventure as it lacks any sort of leveling system. Screenshots make it look like Secret of Mana - with three characters all moving together - but it doesn't play anything like it. There isn't any AI, instead one knight is the "active" one the other two just float along behind unable to give/receive damage.
I haven't played Slayers yet! Maybe someday. I do love the anime.
Ranma ½ also falls into the "short in generic" category, though the game manages to be hilarious like the source material. I just about lost it when I realized you have to carry around buckets of water to flip Ranma back and forth between male and female.
The Sailor Moon game is actually really ambitious. It's long(-ish) and somewhat difficult, with lots voice acting of specific show references.
Tenchi Muyou! is surprisingly a strategy RPG. But yeah, short and easy.
I still have yet to experience Akazukin ChaCha, 3x3 Eyes, Gdleen, and countless others.

Well done. Glad to see it really does play out like I remember it. I think I ended up blazing through it just a tiny bit after you did, in 2001 or so. I also think I downloaded this from the long dead Cult of Kefka website. Now that...that was a long time ago.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Magic Knight Rayearth (Super Famicom)

Oh man, Cult of Kefka. Back in the days when the internet wasn't full of 4chans and reddits and Facebooks.Exhuminator wrote:I remember that site. Who remembers RIGG besides moi?Ack wrote:I also think I downloaded this from the long dead Cult of Kefka website. Now that...that was a long time ago.
