Re: universal arcade stick?
I've never heard of one. Joysticks usually have a free floating shaft with a slot on the bottom for leverage in changing the ball top. I honestly can't think of a way to stop it from spinning without seizing the whole joystick, but i'll crunch my brain and if i figure anything out i'll let you know. it's never bothered me, but like i said some joysticks spin far easier than others. my sanwas for example feel effortless to spin as opposed to my happ competition joystick that won't rotate unless you're trying deliberately to spin it.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I see. Well maybe it's best left alone then. I would definitely classify this one as "effortless" when it comes to spinning.skate323k137 wrote:I've never heard of one. I'm going to spend some more time with the stick tomorrow. Maybe I'm missing something in my MAME setup. I have yet to try it out with Kawaks.

Re: universal arcade stick?
Well after installing the software on the disc, I found I've had better luck with the stick. I've enabled turbo on my main button, so even if I miss a press in a SHMUP it'll still get out a solid number of shots. The only game where I really notice lag is Metal Slug in MAME, and that's from both the stick and the buttons.
One thing I could live without is the ball top. I never played a stick like this, just the old "baseball bat" tops from the arcades. Since the ball screws off, could I change the handle then?
Would this LB-30-N Joystick Bat Top fit?

i like the bat style too. as far as if that top will fit, it may, but will likely require the $.50 adapter that lets those bat-tops fit on normal sanwa JLF joysticks. i've had pretty good luck changing balltops from different sticks, for example the joystick in my blaze stick and hori fighting stick SS have been interchangable with sanwa balltops, but your mileage may vary.

I just wish the shipping wasn't almost the same price as the bat top. You could throw something that size in a padded envelope and mail it for a $1.50 or so.

Re: universal arcade stick?
they refund the difference. the first time i ordered from them i had a heart attack when i saw the "your payment has been refunded" email from paypal, but it was a refund of the shipping overage. they're good people there. for what it's worth i ordered a ton of stuff (several sets of sanwa buttons, balltops, joystick gates, and then some) and still got some of the shipping back.
hell if it doesn't fit i'll take it off your hands.

That's awesome, guess I'll go ahead and put in for a bat top.skate323k137 wrote:they refund the difference. the first time i ordered from them i had a heart attack when i saw the "your payment has been refunded" email from paypal, but it was a refund of the shipping overage. they're good people there. for what it's worth i ordered a ton of stuff (several sets of sanwa buttons, balltops, joystick gates, and then some) and still got some of the shipping back.

Yeah I sent an email to them earlier about modding services, and they responded within an hour. Unfortunately, they can't do anything for me right now since they are backed up with orders. They did point me to the Shoryuken forums though.

Re: universal arcade stick?
thanks to SF4, everyone that deals with arcade sticks is backed up right now.
here's how a fella on the shmups forum modded that stick, to give you an idea of what would be involved

It actually doesn't look too difficult, assuming I can teach myself how to solder. I'd also have to pick up a dremel.skate323k137 wrote:thanks to SF4, everyone that deals with arcade sticks is backed up right now.

Re: universal arcade stick?
By the way, I'm hoping the bat top will be less smooth than the ball top. Ideally this will cause the stick to not spin as much because of friction.
