I had no problem renting from Hertz. They just required my Passport, drivers license, and a major credit card.

Fnck that shit.
The fact that it is making Comiket worried, is enough to make us worried.

My family has rented cars in Germany before.

It requires a valid US driver's license and passport, and you must be at least 18 years old, though over 21 is preferred. Austria, Germany, and Switzerland require you possess an International Driving Permit unless your license is in English.

If you want to rent the vehicle in USD, you need to set up the rental service at least two weeks in advance. If you want to leave the country, you need to examine the rental contract to ensure whether you can. Most western European car rental services don't want you to drive east of Germany except to Austria, and some don't want you to drive in Italy. You should also ensure the rental agency or credit card provides auto insurance, because US auto insurance won't apply. All drivers in Germany must legally carry a first aid kid and warning triangle.

See! Basic math! They have additional requirements! It's not that difficult.

Age + License = Two things

Passport + License + Credit Card (for insurance) = Three things!

See Mike. Your brain can still learn things.

Hopefully.

Doubtful, but hopefully.

The fact that there are mass shootings practically every day, often several times per day and politicians can still say "eh, stuff happens" is way beyond my comprehension. If I squint and work my brain very hard, I can try to understand on a historical or sociological level how could anyone oppose public healthcare but this whole thing about guns...sorry, I just can't, it's beyond what my mind can accept.

Sorry guys :(
No need for apologies. Many Americans, myself included, can't fathom the NRA stance on guns.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I feel like money is a requirement to rent a car in any country.

I feel like a place that didn't require money to rent a car is a major red flag.

I could be alone on this, but having a career that makes you travel a lot and rent cars super rules. My company sent me to a convention and the rental car I requested was unavailable. Instead I got a Honda Odyssey with a V8 engine that purred like a kitten and drove like what I think a Porsche would handle.

Do not "drive it like you stole it", "drive it like it's a rental".

That minivan hauled. Didn't have the acceleration of a corvette, but the wheels on that gal went full o Scooby-Doo and would spin for a few seconds before making motion.

My dad travels every week for work. His company rents his hotel, books his plane, and rents a car, and then lets him accumulate all of the miles and benefits. We've paid for multiple international trips through frequent flyer miles and Marriott rewards, and we get some pretty nice cars when we go international. In Germany we got to rent a brand new BMW, with the only miles on it what it took to drive from the lot to the rental agency. Taking that sucker on the Autobahn was nice.

Luke wrote:Edit*Spoke with Karsten. The major rental car companies are all around Germany, but you do need more that a DRIVERS LICENSE (why are you yelling?) from the US, and to be 24 years of age.

1) Money
2) Drivers License
3) Passport
4) Green Insurance Certificate

He also said "This mjr guy sounds like an asshole who has never rented a car in Germany."
Unnecessarily harsh and most likely fabricated insult. The International Motor Insurance Card is provided by the rental company if you are a US citizen renting abroad. I do not think a US citizen can have an IMI Card since our insurance providers are not typically members.
