Overall thoughts: Not overly impressed.
Heist mode is confusing at first but after I few turns I started to feel it was a bit unbalanced against the robbers. The layout of the map is too busy and vertical as well.
The car stealing mode thing is fucking useless. Maybe it's the map but all you do is get in a car and drive it around in circles like a Benny Hill sketch. You may be shot at by people on the other team, you may not. My first attempt I finished top of the team with...0 kills! Fun!
Conquest is conquest expect without tanks and planes and anything else that makes Battlefield Battlefield. The grappling hooks are cool though.
Yeah I'm not feeling it either.
I'd rather just pay $5 for a month of EA access and play BF4 than get Hardline.

At this point, why even bother with last gen? Xbox 360 is literally 10 years old in November. The hardware is weak and unless the game design is deliberately gimped across all platforms, the last gen versions are going to require many downgrades compared to the "real" versions.
I can't believe the 360 is being supported with AAA games for longer than the PS2 was, when the PS2 was twice as popular. Seriously. Show me a COD or MGS equivalent on PS2 in 2010.

^ I wouldn't say it's completely unprecedented. There was a "gimped" CoD World at War pretty late into the PS2's lifespan. It didn't see much from Bliz-Acti after that, so a pattern may be developing.
As far as the question about why they'd make 360/PS3 BO3 online only... has anyone jumped on their last gen consoles online lately? They're constantly advertising for Xbones and PS4s. From what I gather, the conversion rate isn't spectacular yet (360 to Xbone especially) even though there are becoming more reasons to make the leap.
Microsoft, Sony, Activision, et al. obviously exist to make money so they're covering their bases. The holdout market isn't small enough to completely ignore yet, but this is one of the many incentives to upgrade that are on the horizon for the on-the-fence types. It's a signal to the world that they're moving forward and that there might not be another CoD or other AAAs in the pipeline for last gen consoles.
(The Wii U's relatively small install base scared Call of Duty away after the short BO2 and Ghosts experiment. There's plenty of discussion elsewhere about Nintendo's self-induced solo journeys.)

I picked up Ghosts limited edition for $25 and Advance Warfare Atlas edition for $50 both for Xbox 360 through Amazon. They both come with the season pass so that means all of the map packs.
Although I won't play online mutliplayer, having offline split screen and possible future system link setups is a plus.
I want to see if Black Ops 3 has system link as well.
Black Ops 3 will allow modding on PC, but I'm going to have to wait and see before taking the plunge. Last CoD I have in my digital library is Ghosts, and MP in that died quite fast. BLOPS2 still has the largest MP community afaik.. Too bad the series has become too futuristic.
I really wish Star Wars Battlefront had more of a Battlefield vibe. The MP almost reminds me of what they did with the Medal of Honor reboot with some CoD tossed in. I wish they would just do an HD collection for the previous Battlefront games that would be a day 1 purchase for me.
Hell I really wish the next Battlefield game was in the 2142 setting we've been on a modern combat kick for quite some time now with BF2, BFBC, BFBC2, BF3, BF4, and BFH. Although I would love some old fashioned WW2 and Vietnam games coming out in the near future as well. I would totally kill for a Brothers In Arms game with co-op to be released this gen.
I really wish Battlefield 1943 had been released on PC the console only crap annoyed the hell out of me.
