There were three GG games. The first and third are Japan-only, but the first and second were rereleased as Shining Force CD. The third has a translation patch available, and it does not directly follow from the first two; instead it directly links Shining Force 1 and 2 (while GG1 & 2 are sequels to SF1 that mostly follow new characters).

Yeah, I still need to play Final Conflict. Seems like a nice SF2 prequel and bridger.

If the OP does end up going the sega saturn route, I would highly recommend Dragon Force.

However for the ps1, one that I don't believe has been mentioned yet is rhapsody. It's pretty silly, short, has nice graphics, and the difficulty can be adjusted. :)

I've actually played a good bit of SF CD & enjoyed it. My Sega CDs internal batt was dead & I had to keep transferring saves back & forth from RAM cart which got old.

Forgot I recently bought Eternal Eyes CIB @ Goodwill for $2 lol. This one I believe holds the title for 1st PSX SRPG. Any good?

One series I highly recommend: Langrisser.

There is one caveat though - only the first game is in English. It was renamed Warsong and released on the Genesis. However, there is an unofficial English patch for part 2 if you're into emulating.

The characters in these games are really interesting and you control tons of units. The battles are intense.

Best of all, the character artwork was done by Satoshi Urushihara. And it's absolutely beautiful:

I'm trying to collect at least one version of all the games. Part 2 is on its way.

Great article about the series:

I haven't managed to track down Warsong yet. The game I just order is Der Langrisser on Super Famicom.

III, IV, and V I'd like to get on Saturn. Then of course there are the Dreamcast and Wonderswan titles.

I hear one of the Saturn games is good and the other 2 are meh. This is coming from Mike Moehnke of Rpgamer who joined me on our rpg podcast a few months back.

I also got lucky and JoeAwesome gave me the Warsong cart for free. I just had to find a box and manual off the ebay.

Okay all... my strategy RPG stock now:
Disgaea (PS2)
Suikoden Tactics (PS2)
Eternal Eyes (PS1)
FE Awakening (3DS)
Dai Senryaku VII (PS2 - military tactics)

Trying to buy La Pucelle Tactics off a RB member now.

These should give me a nice dive into the sub-genre in 2014!

Disgaea alone will take you all of 2014 and 2015 to complete.
