I've been researching these two games myself and the consensus from those who have played both is that 3 is the superior game. Any tedious aspects of the second game have been tweaked in 3, making it an improvement in every way except for the music, which is 2's only advantage.

My Gamecube is hooked up to the CRT via regular RCA cables.

I always wonder about the meat that you find in the walls of Dracula's castle (Castlevania). I would think it would be rotten and gross from all the dust and rubble that fell on it, but that meat is surprisingly nutritious.
