End-Gen Games: To Buy or Not To Buy
As we begin to enter a generation shift in the gaming world, I thought it would be beneficial to start a thread with games to watch that will become collectible and sought-after after this generation begins to wrap up this winter. As with most end-of-the-generation releases, print runs can be limited and games can often slip under the radar except by die-hard fans. Since gaming generations only seem to last between five to ten years (except the PS2, which will likely continue getting releases long after the Apocalypse) this is a very interesting time to be a collector.
So, what games are out right now that are likely being overlooked, underrated, or just plain ignored by the mainstream gaming community? I nominate the following:
In my opinion, this one is a collector's item just waiting to happen. I haven't heard a single word about it online and it seems to have been released with little fanfare outside the Metal Gear community. I'm not sure about the print run, but I doubt copies are flying off retail shelves.
Again, another game that no one has either talked or mentioned much about. Sure, it's just a re-release of two common games with DLC add-on, but that also means it's very unlikely many people are picking this up either. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

Re: End-Gen Games: To Buy or Not To Buy
This is a great topic, and those are two great choices for it.
Personally, I think it will be interesting to see if the upcoming Wii releases of Angry Birds Trilogy and Angry Birds Star Wars do anything. Those games are being released well after nearly every developer has given up on the Wii. (That said, those games are available everywhere; so, whether they will become sought-after rarities is anyone's guess...)
Personally, I think that "end-gen" games to watch are ones that: (1) are very good (or at least good); (2) are part of a series or likely to develop some sort of cult following; (3) are not muli-plaform releases; and (4) are unlikely to be ported to "next gen" systems.

i wonder if any GOTY editions will become valuable years down the road. Most had all the DLC on the disc and after the 360 and ps3 servers are all shut down this may be the only way to ever play the DLC.

I have a feeling the Metal Gear collection won't be worth much to collectors since you can get all the games by other means and the two that would become the rarest are downloads only.

You could definitely be right. However, I was looking more at the fact that the collection is A) a late release in the PS3 lifespan, B) a console exclusive, C) not likely to sell well, and D) a large collection of a popular franchise. I think these elements alone make it possible that this will be collectible and sought after in a few years time.

Re: End-Gen Games: To Buy or Not To Buy
This is a great topic. I think there are some games that you can tell are just destined be collectors items. Mainly games that don't get a lot of marketing or public acknowledgement.
I bought a Wii U and learning from past Nintendo consoles, I have a strong notion that both the physical version of Super Luigi U and Wind Waker HD will be collector's items. I know the Wii U is definitely not at End of Life yet (it better not be, I just bought two days ago) but, I just wanted to throw that in there. I do think that Skyward Sword is definitely going to be an End-Gen game that will be hard to find as used copies are still going for upwards of $50 online. Also, while Metroid Prime Collection was actually released towards the beginning of the Wii's life, it is really expensive (going for around $100 used).
Are there any upcoming current gen games that you all think will become rare in the years to come?

Sweet Fuse for PSP and AquaPazza PS3 probably both fit the description.

BTW, this is an excellent idea for a topic. I always look out for interesting releases late in a consoles life. Publishers tend to bring over random stuff and if you look at end-gen for PS2/PS1, you can see that. I think the PS3 won't be any different with the random end-gen releases.

Re: End-Gen Games: To Buy or Not To Buy
Though easily available online via Steam and GOG, the console version of Terraria was released in limited numbers and in special edition form (a print run of 35000, I believe). Reception of the console version has been mixed because of the controls and it truly being a game built for use on a PC. Though released on Xbox 360 and PS3, only the 360 got the physical version of the game (PS3 has a download voucher in the special edition) and is a definite contender for being tough to track down later for collectors. I've seen many copies of this game sitting around EB, so it's unclear how well they're selling.

Ragnarok: Tactics was released very quietly for PSP in November 2012. You can get it for under $20 but I wonder how many copies were produced.

There is a huge stack of these at Fry's and I was tempted to buy one, but it just seemed kinda pricey for what you get.
