Sega had a wonderful pair of rhythm games in Space Channel 5 and Samba De Amigo, but the Dreamcast’s other unique music-based game came from one of the most unlikely sources. SNK, known mostly for their oldschool 2D fighters created a fresh, 3D cel-shaded game as their last title for a Sega console. The result […]
Today is Friday and it happens to be the 13th of the month. So what better game to talk about than Friday The 13th for the NES. Ok, so there are better games out there, but I couldn’t resist. While many NES fans hate the game, there is a certain charm and/or nostolgia about it… […]
Cybernator (aka Assault Suits Valken in Japan) game is an intense side-scrolling, mech shooter that takes you through a steep difficulty curve. In this shmup, your ‘Assault Suit’ can jump, thrust, dash, punch and use various weapons to do your damage. Control is great (but different) with a real ‘chunky robot’ feel. Cybernator boasts many […]
I know this topic has been discussed numerous times before on this site and others like it, but I just had to share a couple of recent examples of incredible concept games that show that not only show that you can make a incredibly engageing experience without 3D graphics, but you can also have that […]
Castle of Shikigami 2 (also known as Shikigami No Shiro II) naturally originated in the arcades and was later ported to the Sega Dreamcast (in the series of late shmups that kept the DC import scene alive), Playstation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox. The game was released in Japan for each of those mediums and […]
| Introduction | Part 1 | Part 2 | Digg It! | 10.) Metal Slug (Neo Geo; NTSC-U) Estimated Price: $1000 (Complete) Known universally for its hand drawn, over-the-top comic carnage, the original Metal Slug is an amazingly difficult find on the Neo Geo AES. The US Neo Geo is home to many overpriced rarities, […]
Castlevania is possibly the best example of a classic franchise that, for the most part, has stayed true to its two-dimensional roots and has pushed the limits of the 2D power of a number of consoles. While Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and the new Dawn of Sorrow have received most of the praise, Castlevania’s […]
September 9, 1999 (better known as 9/9/99) was the date of possibly the most successful game console launch in history. It also marked the release of what is possibly one of the best console-specific magazines to be published in the USA. The Official Dreamcast Magazine was a slick publication that not only featured some of […]
The 16-bit era was filled with a number of platformers. Most of these platformers were mediocre games that were nothing but wannabe Mario and Sonic games. However, there were a small handful of platformers that were worth a look, but rarely received any attention because they got lost in the shuffle. Plok is a gem […]
As a kid in the late 1980’s and early 90’s, I was a big fan of the sidescrolling brawler. Coincidentally, I was also a fans of the pop-classic cartoon of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles. Imaging my absolute joy when Konami released a mega-sweet arcade brawler featuring the heroes-in-halfshell. Since I didn’t have an NES or […]
I have a bit of an artistic background, so I can’t help but fall in love with quality, game-inspired artwork. Over the last year or so, I have been compiling my favorite unofficial fan art and I hope to start sharing them in themed bursts.
This latest installment of this game art feature is filled with Link, Zelda, and a bunch of other Hyrulian goodness. Usually, I only have my favorite ten pieces for a given theme, but The Legend of Zelda fans have created a wealth on incredible artwork. I wanted to give each of the best the attention they are due, so I have a three-part, 30 piece collection. Many of these pieces are just awe-inspiring and I hope you really get a kick out of them.
