Worth getting a Wii for existing titles?

Post by corn619 »

I've been thinking about getting a Wii for its great 09 release lineup. Are there enough must have titles in the existing Wii library to warrant a purchase now though? Considering a price drop is not likely, I'd like to catch up a some of the titles I missed out on. Any favorites or suggestions in your collection? Please no Mario or Zeldas, I'm looking for good original IPs. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say this but it sounds like you want us to do your homework. YES there are a ton of great games. It's impossible to recommend anything however as you haven't listed any of your favorite genres.

For example two of my favorite games are Castle of Shikigami III and Opoona. Don't like obscure SHMUPs and jRPGs? How am I supposed to know...

Let's just say there are a bunch of gems.

I like games that are fun, simple. Like my original post says, what are some of the favorites in your collection? I can do my own homework thanks.

I didn't mean to insult you. Here are my 5 faves then... outside of Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3, because I guess you wouldn't like those (however fantastic they may be)

- No More Heroes *would buy a Wii just for this one*
- HOTD 2&3
- Opoona
- Star Soldier VC
- Shikigami no Shiro III

soon:
- Ultimate Shooting Collection
- MadWorld
- Arc Rise Fantasia
- Dead Rising

edit: I agree with 99.9999% of what the first site posted by bustaballs says. The Wii is a killer console.

I've picked up a bunch of Wii games over the past year (sucker for sales) but haven't gotten around to many of them yet...

Games that fit your criteria: No More Heroes, Trauma Center (both), Elebits, Boom Blox, Zack & Wiki, BlastWorks, Endless Ocean.

No More Heroes was fun. Not sure if I'd buy a Wii just for that but I liked it. I played about an hour of Z&W. Fun, but I got distracted by my new 360 and haven't returned yet.

I have mixed feelings about the 'New Play Control' series. Sometimes it strikes me as lacking creativity, but I can see games like Pikmin and Chibi-Robo! benefiting from the Wiimote. I'll probably check them out even though I have them for the GC.

I personally enjoy my wii alot. But it's not from the discbased titles. I use it almost entirley for VC games. They're a lot of excellent classics and counting. Which Im sure you would like to check out! For 09 I'm looking forward to punch- out!! and sin and punishment 2. As for original IPs, The Conduit, my most hyped release since SSBB!

"Worth getting a Wii for existing titles?"

Hells, YEAH!

I direct your attention to Wikipedia's List of Wii games.

But personally, the only games I have are Wii Play, RE4:Wii Edition, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Super Paper Mario, and Super Smash Bros Melee. And I flat out LOVE 'EM. But with the Harry Potter game, I'll probably trade it in up at Play N Trade once I beat the game and unlock everything.

I'm planning on focusing on getting more games for it, as well as my other consoles, once I get more hours at my job.

Nights was good, I liked the Smack down vs raw too and I dont really like wrestling games. I think the Wii has some great games but I also think alot of them blow. I love the Wii but cant play for more than an hour or so at a time b4 I move on to my PS3 or Dreamcast.

Personally, I think all of the current systems are too expensive for what they have right now. But I'm always like that.
But the Wii does have some nice stuff -- even for old-schoolers.

Do you have a Gamecube? Having that library at your fingers helps as well.

Mario Kart Wii is very good.
I like the Sega arcade shooters like Ghost Squad and House of the Dead 2 & 3
I'm looking forward to getting Ultimate Shooting Collection.
There's also some good 2D fighters that either recently got released or should soon (like the Samurai Showdown collection

The actual NiGHTS game was good, but I can't stand the dumb, unskippable cutscenes. Just give me the game!!!
