The next gaming console.

Post by jay00 »

Does anyone have any insight as to what the next gaming console is in progress to be released on the market? Apparently I heard there was a Dreamcast 2 coming out this year on 9.9.9, but it's nothing but a rumor to be false. I'm pretty pissed about it.

The rumor about Dreamcast 2 only came about because Sega bought up the name Dreamcast again last year just to keep it their own, it was nothing more than specualtion

I'd expect either a new xbox or wii to be next. Either way I expect it'll be more iterative than anything with a bigger focus on improvements through software than anything.

I wouldn't expect any new "big name" consoles for a while. I think Microsoft just went on record to say they thought the 360 would have a 10 year life span. Given the jump in graphics quality from the last gen till this gen was so small I tend to agree with them.

In any case I would expect Sony/MS/Nintendo to try to release cheaper or revised versions of the current consoles before they even begin to talk about next gen hardware.
Systems: Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Genesis 3, Genesis 2, 32X, Sega CD (model 2), Saturn (model 1), Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox (Modded), Xbox 360, GameBoy, GBA SP, Game Gear, PSP... always adding more

100% Agreed!!! How much more can they improve with these already great systems PS3/Xbox360, the graphics, games, and multimedia features are already functional, all they can do is improve the firmware on the systems. i honestly cant see how they can improve graphics on these either, theyre amazing.

^^^^ Agree.

It's gonna be few more years yet before another console comes long. And even when it does, it's likely going to be very similar to the current crop in terms of horsepower. We've reached a point of diminishing returns. Controlers, UI, online services and user content will instead be the differentiating factors.

I don't foresee a new console coming out any time soon because Sony and Microsoft are hard pressed to make a profit on the ones already on the market.

I get a chuckle out of "next gen" speculation when we haven't even seen 1% of what the current gen can deliver.

Heck, I'm still trying to catch up on the 16bit era.

If anything Nintendo is going to have to come to market first since the Wii lacks graphics power. They had one huge hit with the Wii and it's fun remote but I can't see it staying competitive through the life of the PS3.
