Hey guys, I realize it's a bit short notice, but if any of you live near Auburn, Alabama, there's an anime convention going on this weekend(January 10-11, 2009) called AUSAM-CON. It's not a very big convention, but a couple of us guys from Racketboy are going to be running panels.
Fastbilly's leading a discussion about the history of the coin-op arcade, and I'll be discussing horror in games alongside Terry Bosky, lead writer for Game Couch. We'll also be involved in several other panels, but it's probably best not to talk about those...

Is anyone else having problems getting their head around the concept of an anime convention in Alabama?

Re: AUSAM-CON 2009
I would say "you and me both" or something like "I am not going" but I am far to tied into this this year.
As for what I am talking about, since the timeframe is short, it will really just be a good ole boy discussion of arcade games. Nothing fancy or terribly deep. Now if I had the hour and a half slot I was originally told I had, well things would be different.

while the majority of people attending the university of alabama are deuchbag greek ass hats and the rest of the state seems backwards to the rest of the country, there are a good amount of people who really like them some anime sooooooooo i'd say the convention will probably be fairly small but entertaining none the less. btw ack, were you a member of the anime club at bama?MrPopo wrote:Is anyone else having problems getting their head around the concept of an anime convention in Alabama?

Actually, no, I've only been at Alabama for a semester. I was a member of the club at Auburn University, where I was an undergrad. I was also president of their computer gaming club for a year(Hell, some of Fastbilly and my best friends were members of that club or still are), and I'm doing my best to help out a similar start-up gaming club here at UA, but I've unfortunately been extremely busy.
How about you, chief? Where you from?

Alabama! What's Alabama like?
You know that story, about how NASA spent millions of dollars developing this pen that writes in Zero G? Did you ever read that?
You know how the Russians solved the problem?
They used a pencil.

I've lived in flordia, but how is it different from the rest of the usa. Is it really a poor state? Big cypress grove trees? Crazy rednecks?
