Anyone have experience with PS2 ScummVM?

Post by noiseredux »

I can't seem to get it to work. I have the newest version, which says it supports loading from USB. I fire it up through launchelf. I am able to load Monkey1. And then it freezes with a black screen with just the + cursor on the screen.

Anyone have experience using ANY version of SCUMMVM for PS2 successfully? Let me know what's up?

The enhanced cd verison or the original floppy one im just guessing but there might be some issue if you dont have the cd for the game.

Try Beneath A Steel Sky. It's available on Scummvm website for free. It's also a great game to boot. Well worth playing through if you haven't done so already.

BASS is pretty much the litmus test for SCUMMVM. If BASS doesn't work then you are obviously doing something wrong.

Thanks, Niode. I'll do that.

I got the same version of Monkey to work on PSP's SCUMMVM with no problem, so I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong with the PS2 version.

I dnt play games on my PC. I just dont. I hate the idea.

I've been playing it on PSP instead. And that's been fine. It looks beautiful stretched to the wide screen.

But all in all, I'm a console guy. I've gotten accustom to playing my games on my PS2, so I'd rather just find a way to do so if possible (the getting these things to work part of it appeals to me on the electro-hobby level).

But yeah. I've just never liked playing games on a PC. No real reason. Just not into it.

but... why? Playing it on anything without a pointing device just sounds like torture to me.

It's not like it could be an OS problem since SCUMMVM has been ported to practically every platform imaginable.

PS2 controller has an analog stick... I dont see how that's so far removed from a trackball really. Not to mention when I was younger I was used to playing it on freakin' Sega Genesis controller!

I've said this before, but it kind of bothers me how on this forum if someone asks for help on a project, someone always has to respond along the lines of "why would you want to do that?"

Well i have no objection to using scummvm on a console i even tried it out on my gamecube.

But probably the reason i and some others here don't get why you don't wan't to play monkey island on a pc is because we played it back when it was only on pc. And a mouse became a standard for point and click.

That's fine. I'm just saying, it sort of bothers me that a lot of the response are people trying to "get" why someone would want to do something, rather than just trying to help the person asking the question accomplish whatever it is they're trying to accomplish.
