Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse possible problem

Post by vlame »

I sold my original cart only copy of this on half.com the buyer sent me an email:
I'm not sure if it can be remedied with a good cleaning
but there seems to be something wrong with this cartridge; it starts up
and shows the title screen just fine but when the opening animation starts
the main character's sprite is discombobulated and once it finishes the
screen goes black and I can't play the game.

I tried swabbing it with a q-tip but no luck, and for whatever reason the
inside of the cartridge smells like it's been burnt...

An explanation or possible help would be appreciated since I would highly
prefer to keep the game instead of returning it.
could this be because he is using a NOAC clone?

I tried it in my NES model 1 (thru a game genie) and it worked fine.

half.com thread
this says cv3 shouldn't work on a game genie, lol.

Sounds like he could be using a NES Clone, many of them can't play Castlevania 3.

The burnt smell thing is pretty normal, alot of mine smell like that and work fine.

If he is using a clone, I'd say its his issue not yours. Its not your responsiblity to know kind of system he is using.

The only clone that I know of that will play this game is the Retro Duo. I am sure there are one or two more that will, but it is highly unlikely that the clone a random buyer has will play Castlevania 3. If they have original hardware then... I dunno, make sure they cleaned the system I guess.

If someone buys the Mac version of a game and complains it won't run on their Windows PC, yeah, the mistake is theirs. This isn't quite the same situation, but it's similar enough. Check to make sure they're trying to run it on an original NES. If not, the fact that it doesn't work is their problem. And, in fact, if you want to advise them on a course of action, tell them I'll buy it off them for a pittance ;)

Wow, excellent price for a classic game. And that's a hefty eBay fee. Wish we still had Yahoo Auctions here in the US. They'd dominate now that eBay has scared everyone off with lack of payment options and high fees.

You now know probably everything meaningful we can tell you. Did you confirm with the buyer whether or not they are using an original NES or a NES clone/NOAC?
