Another Reason to Avoid GameStop

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

When I bought a naked copy of Golden Sun a couple of months ago, I checked it over for a few minutes before leaving the store. Of course, this is mainly because Golden Sun is an older game, GBA games are heavily pirated and I'm paranoid, but now I'll make sure to check my games throughly.

That's pretty crazy the employee didn't care though. I mean, what the hell.

Whoa. Thanks for the notice. I was thinking about buying some used GBA games from Gamestop soon...

The state of Gamestop/EBGames' current practices, such as these examples, have only encouraged me moreso to avoid current gen gaming.

That's because most times, they can't do shit about it. They already gave out store credit for the cartridge, reporting a fake is only going to mean a revenue loss for the store, and less numbers = far more angry managers.

Having worked at both GS and EB, I can say... I only buy used games with their package and manual, and after inspecting the stuff, the only games I own from the stores out of their cases/package are my copy of KH: CoM and Misadventures of Tron Bonne. CoM came with the manual, but no case. Tron Bonne is sans manual and case... those are the ONLY exceptions I've made. I'm picky with that.

Thankfully I never saw counterfeits while I worked at both stores, we did see a lot of stolen CDs from rental stores though, and more often than not, the manager(s) would make some bogus excuse to NOT take in the game.

They CAN do something about it. They can suck it up and take a loss at the expense of keeping their customer's best interest at heart.
Any way you look at it, they are being decietful.

reasons like these make me miss smaller game shops. anyone remember microplay? it was a chain store but they were pretty good. they even offered mod services for playstation, and had a more friendly atmosphere than gamestop. i almost never see mom and pop game stores here anymore
