Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

F-Zero GX: The Greatest Racer Ever?

Post by racketboy »

Pulled F-Zero GX back out to play on my Cube and I can't help but think that racing doesn't get much better than it.
Trying to beat my own times on all the tracks is enough fun for me.
Sure the Grand Prix is frustrating later on, but it gets you blood pumping like no other racer I've played.

Anybody else feel the same way?
Anybody have another favorite?

It is indeed the greatest racing game ever made, including those from extreme variants like kart racing. It's just so fantastic. It's the very first game that every new Cube owner should buy, especially considering it can be found for under $10 in most places.

I'm ganna toot my own horn here and refer you to my F-Zero GX music video:

Second one down. It doesn't matter if you don't like Primus. The editing will distract from any musician bias. Download rather than stream, if possible.

I hate it. I don't like the track design, the way the ship controls or the music. I like the first two F-Zeros a lot though.

never really dug GX, not sure why. graphics are pretty though. I liked F-Zero X for the N64 though, that game was incredible.

I have a soft spot for the Ridge Racer series. Rage Racer and R4 were both awesome racing games.

Right now i'm playing RR6 for the 360...

GX was good, but not nearly the greatest racer ever. The story mode was a bit shallow and poorly tuned and the customization options had a weak interface. It's been awhile since I've played the home version, but I remember the way things are unlocked being pretty strange as well. I agree with Liam on the tracks, they were the worst for this series. Because the previous F-Zeros had such bland backgrounds and this one had very detailed ones, I think a lot of people substituted that for meaning great design. A few were greatt, but most were iffy.

Overall it's a good game, and it's best in the arcade where you don't see as much of it's errors, but on GC I give the lead to Double Dash; much better multiplayer.

IMO, the track design is top-notch.
You won't find similar courses in many other games and they have a great variety for a number of difficulty levels.
The only control I like it Falcon's -- I never use anybody else.
Music isn't too bad either.
My opinion, of course.

I could care less about the story in a racer :)
The customization is lacking, but I never got much into that in other racers either.

Sweet piece of editing there!
Did a much better job than Nintendo did on the real thing :)

Same here, I purely play arcade racers. As far as that goes, I think Daytona still stands surpreme (it's about time we got a new one).
