I bought a complete copy of vector man today but it came in a cardboard box instead of a plastic case.
Did that game just happen to come in cheaper cardboard packaging or is there also a plastic case version out there?

Re: VectorMan box
I have an original copy of Vectorman, and it definitely came in the lackluster cardboard casing... At least it's an excellent game!
Re: VectorMan box
Sega transitioned their later releases from black cases to red boxes. Probably saved them a little money, especially considering most people stored their carts loose rather than in the cases.
Re: VectorMan box
Yup the one I got is a red cardboard box with signs of wear on all corners. The black pastic boxes are far far better.marurun wrote:Sega transitioned their later releases from black cases to red boxes. Re: VectorMan box
I still like the plastic boxes better! They have good collector value to me.
Re: VectorMan box
They don't have any added play value for me, unfortunately, though there is a part of me that does prefer the plastic case.

Re: VectorMan box
I had always admired Sega for doing the keepsake boxes, starting with the Master system. I was a little upset when the game gear boxes were cardboard, but figured it was a portable system. Then they went cardboard towards the end of the Genesis, and I was pissed. Mega Bomberman would have looked sweeter with a real case. And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the $100 Phantasy star 4 was also in a cardboard box.

It is. I have it with box and manual. Cardboard.shallowgamer wrote:And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the $100 Phantasy star 4 was also in a cardboard box.
Re: VectorMan box
It's true that the box makes no difference in gameplay.
The plastic cases do help keep out dust and protect the cartridge though. They hold up a whole lot better too. I buy a lot of my Genesis games at a local store.
The difference in the wear on the cartridges is night and day between the ones in plastic boxes and the ones that spent their days floating loose. I buy the games for the games but it sucks to buy a cartridge thats beat to hell, sun damaged or has someones name wrote on it.

Re: VectorMan box
I bought Light Crusader from a local shop, still in its cardboard box, and it was PRISTINE. Everything. It was odd.
I bought it because it was only four dollars and I'd been curious about Light Crusader, not because of its condition. Though I was very impressed by how well it had held up.
