Original Xbox making funny noises

My Xbox makes a tapping noise when loading discs...I can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem as it's kind of a hard noise to describe. Does anyone else have an Xbox that does that?

Xboxes are notorious for having bad DVD drives, however, it could be the hard drive clicking as well, which would be bad news. Is your Xbox modded?

No, at least I don't think so. I bought it at a play n trade a while ago (it's no longer covered by their 30 day warranty). I erased all the game saves...they had a TON of saves so I'm assuming it was well used.

When I was looking for people with similar problems, a lot of them said they heard clicking noises. This is more of a taptaptap...theres no clickclickclick.

It's tough to say, but I'd gues that it's the dvd drive. You could trying popping off the lid and putting your ear close while it's running to find out for sure.

If it is the dvd drive, my advice would be to mod it if you can, and then back up all your games. Then never use the drive again unless you have to for some reason, which isn't likely.
