Looking at expanding my PSX collection...
I've got
Breath of Fire IV
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Grandia
Wild Arms
Ape Escape
Metal Gear Solid
When I was younger, before I (foolishly!) sold a lot of PSX games, I owned and thoroughly played through the Crash games, as well as things like Tekken.
Of course, there's the hidden gems lists and such, but a lot of the great games on there either didn't come out in PAL territories (FF Tactics, Chrono Chross) or are out of my price range (Tombi).
So, can anyone help recommend me some titles, or am I being a bit too specific?

I think Rapid Reload is a totally underrated PS game:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/rapid-reload
Called "Gunner's Heaven" in Japan, it never saw an official US release. Only PAL and JP.
It borrows heavily from Gunstar Heroes (to the point of blatant rip-off in some parts), but is heaps of fun none the less.

Heart of Darkness. You won't be disappointed!
The Parasite Eve games are good too.

I'm looking for Super Puzzle Fighter 2 and Crash Team Racing. Get those, but wait until after I can find them for a good price.

If you own BoF IV, get BoF III. It's better than IV all around; IV only looks prettier.

Pulled my list from another topic...
The PS1 is the definitive video game experience in my opinion. So many great games, and ones I haven't even discovered yet. Here's a list of stuff from my collection I consider essential, even if you have to play a backup...
Brave Fencer Musashi
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Chrono Cross
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot 2
Dragon Warrior VII
Einhander
Final Fantasy Anthology
Final Fantasy Chronicles
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Jumping Flash!
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Legend of Dragoon
Legend of Mana
Lunar: Silver Star Story
MDK
Megaman Legends
Megaman X4
Metal Gear Solid
Rayman
Suikoden
Syphon Filter
Time Crisis
Tobal No. 1
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Twisted Metal 2
Vagrant Story
Vandal Hearts
Wild 9
Wipeout 3
Xenogears
Not neccesarilly obscure, but some slightly lesser known titles worth checking out...
The Divide: Enemies Within
Future Cop L.A.P.D.
Gekioh Shooting King
Granstream Saga
I.Q. Final
Omega Boost
Puzzle Star Sweep
