Problems with SNES

Post by ADaggerThrough »

So I just got my first SNES. I got it off eBay for £20 - the console, leads, two controllers and Super Mario World, Paperboy 2, Super Swiv and Cool Spot.

I'm using my GameCube's AV cable rather than the RF lead - I've had no problems with the AV cable before, and I don't appear to have any video related problems on any games apart from Cool Spot, which has a flickering screen all the time. What could be causing this?

Super Mario World runs fine, Paperboy 2 runs reeeaaalllyyy slowly and I can't even get past the start-up screen on Super Swiv, haha.

The power lead isn't official - it's got multiple connections and a "volt charge" switch on the plug itself. It was set to "9" so I've left it, but I'm guessing I should get my hands on an official AC?

Finally, both of the controllers appear to be broken - I have one official and one "Game Commander" pad with turbo controls. The official one appears mostly okay, but well... I have to press REALLY hard down on left on the d-pad (which means it's really fucking hard to play Mario), and it doesn't seem the start button works either. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Or do I just need to buy a new pad?

Whenever I use the "Game Commander" controller with Super Mario World, I either can't get past the menu screen, or the game freezes every five seconds, then lets me play for another few seconds, then freezes again, etc. Cool Spot seemed to work okay with it, and as mentioned before I can't even get past the menu on Super Swiv with it. I'm guessing I should just replace this pad with another official one, then? haha.

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

Honestly I would just recommend picking up an official AC unit and a few new official controllers. Although the Game Commander might work better once you get the AC unit.

Yeah I've bought a new, official AC unit now and an official controller now.

I've got the Game Commander pad working now, turns out one of the turbo switches was turned on when I thought it was turned off.

It's working okay now, but I'll feel much better once I've gotten my new AC unit and controllers!
