Just bought a PS3 tonight
and I'm very impressed so far, sleek interface and the system itself looks fantastic. I picked up Metal Gear Solid 4, and tomorrow I'm picking up hd cables and The Dark Knight blu ray. Too bad that Street Fighter 4 special edition doesn't come out until February : /

Older. Not wiser.

You should get Valkyria Chronicles. One of the best games I've seen in recent years, a great take on the SRPG genre, and a game that deserves to sell more than it currently is. We need to encourage games like this.

Re: Just bought a PS3 tonight
It is my opinion that what defines the PS3 is not its physical disc games, but its fantastic range of downloadable titles. The following are must buys:
fl0w
The philosophy of thatgamecompany, who made fl0w, is that they make games for people to relax to, rather than get stressed at. The gorgeous (THX certified!) soundtrack, coupled with striking minimalist design and the complete lack of punishment for doing badly makes this the game I pick up and play whenever I need to unwind.
PixelJunk Monsters
An interesting take on the towerdefence genre. Insanely challenging, but very rewarding.
PixelJunk Eden
Form and function combine brilliantly in this... game! Okay, so it's really hard to describe, but there's a demo and you should check it out. If you like stylish things you'll have at least five orgasms in the process.
Note: PixelJunk is a series by Q Games, headed by the legendary Dylan Cuthbert, who made Starfox and other things. We get a new PixelJunk game every year, as they're designed to be made quickly alongside whatever other game projects he has going at the time. He is a programming god and totally freakin' awesome. There is another, PixelJunk Racers, but it is a much more acquired taste.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed
So yeah, this is cheating, as it is also available on XBOX LIVE, but the PS3's dpad is superior to Microsoft's offering, making this the console of choice for this game. If you're a retro nut and haven't got this game already... shame. Shame on you. A demo is available.
Echochrome
Sony actually announced this title at a keynote to show off how creative their downloadable titles would be. It was a good move. This game is fantastic. Perspective-tricking gameplay like those famous Escher paintings. Also has a demo available.
Wipeout HD
It's Wipeout. In HD. Yup.
