So, I am a Nintendo fanboy through and through, raised on the dang machine. And now I'm looking to expand into some older Playstation games because I know that there were some classics that I have missed out on.
So my favorite games (so hard to really.. pinpoint)
Team Fortress 2
Ocarina of Time
Pokemon Blue
Banjo Kazooie
Phantasy Star online
Super Smash Brothers
That's just off the top of my head.. but anyway
I'm downloading Symphony of Night to play, because I love the GBA vania games.
So, what PS1 games would you recommend for someone who's never used the system before? Thanks guys

Not really sure if it fits with your tastes, but considering that it is my favourite game I can't not say Metal gear solid.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

The three Spyro games for the PSX are great, with my personal favourite being the first.
Tombi/Tomba
Grandia
Um Jammer Lammy
Metal Gear Solid I have to agree is a must-play.

I liked Banjo Kazooie when I was younger and I also liked the Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games. You might want to try those. Crash 3 was pretty awesome from what I remember.

Crash 3 is good. Also:
Trap Gunner (action)- unique action title with a lot of style.
Strikers 1945 (shmup)- my fav PSX shmup.
Metal Gear Solid (action)- a classic.
Nascar Rumble (racing) -don't be thrown off by "NASCAR". this game has nothing to do with NASCAR.

Thank you for being oh so witty and unhelpful.
I'm not looking for the "undiscovered gems" of the playstation era. I'm looking for the discovered gems of the era. The games that define the system. He doesn't have an article for that.
Thanks guys. I'm researching the games right now. Will let you know how it goes.

If you actually glanced at the article, you would realize each category has "obvious choices".Lanfear wrote:dsheinem wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/01/ ... 1-psx.html

And of course, there's this, which is exactly what you are asking for:

So don't come in here with that attitude. We have enough of these kinds of threads. Racket and the other contributors put a lot of time into those articles to try and save people like you the time it takes to make pointless threads and wait for answers.
