Sega saturn - Problems with reading disc

Post by Tompika »

I just bought an sega saturn for like 10 bucks and I cant get it work. When it starts the config screen comes up but then when it try to boot a game it just says no disc/emptey. I have opend the saturn and greased a little the rail that the laser use to go up and down :)

But no change happend. So my question is what else can I do to make it work ?
I also cant hear the laser working but when i tried to fix it ...it moved from the posistion I had put it on to its normal. I cant either se the cd start spining

Well, that is probably the reason it was so cheap -- the bugger is broken.

But there are many things you can do -- starting with the simplest, open the saturn and check the security of the ribbon cable. It is possible that it has come slightly ajar.

You can also open the saturn, and clasp the mechanism which sends a disc closed signal to the system. Boot it with case open and see if it spinning at all.

If those things failed, most likely the motor on the drive is bad -- I don't know where else to get working used ones.

Of cousre, you can also trace through the boards and power connections themselves -- but this would require the schematics, which I, personally, haven't seen posted for the Saturn. I'm sure they are out there, I just haven't had use for them.

Cheers
