Anyone here familiar with Fighting Vipers or Last Bronx?

Post by marurun »

These games, while not particularly graphically WOO! compared to contemporaries, are actually quite fun. Last Bronx, particularly, is an interesting take on VF with weapons, effectively.

Yeah, I own both. Personally I feel Last Bronx plays better, but the ability to break armor in Fighting Vipers was really nifty. Mostly I've been playing 2D fighters for the past few months, but it might be time for me to return to 3D.

All in all, Last Bronx is one of the better weapon fighting games that came out at the time. It's not Soul Calibur, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Last Bronx was one of my favorite fighters during the saturn era, it's definitely worth a play if you get the chance. I used to own an import copy which i wish I'd never sold, but I still own my original US copy.

Last Bronx was a great 3D weapon based fighter for it's times. i would not mind seeing a modern version of Last Bronx come out for the 360 or PS3.

I have Last Bronx but it I got it at the same time as about 15 other games so I only gave it a couple of plays. I might load it up and take another look.

I couldnt understand why it is a later version of the VF2 engine, runs at a lower res and still manages to be buggier but at least the bugs didnt affect the gameplay, just the taunting.

According to Wikipedia (whom I have to trust on this matter because I don't know where else to find better) Last Bronx was programmed, in the arcade, by AM3, not AM2, and while it's running on the same Model 2 board I would guess probably not the exact same game engine. The article also claims it's the first weapons-based fighter to use motion capture, which would explain why the character movements are so damn nice.

It should also be considered that we don't know which team ported the Saturn version. VF2, if I recall, was ported by AM2. I don't know if AM3 would have done their own Saturn port or farmed it to a different group in Sega.
