PS3: 60GB or 160GB

Post by scottykick »

Which model would you rather have, the smaller HD space of the 60GB,which has the greatest amount of backwards compatibility or the new 160GB model. Which is basically the 80GB but packed with Uncharted and a Dual Shock controler.

I have a PS2, so backwards compatibility thing is not to much of an issue, but considering that you can essentially add you own HDD of any size it may not be that big of an issue.

Just curious to see what people think.

and just so this post gets rave reviews I will post the magic 9 words

The Dreamcast is the GREATEST console of all time!

I'd go with the backwards compatible one so you could just unplug the Ps2 and put it away. A Ps3 without backwards compatibility would get old fast with it's few good exclusives and do you really think you would need 160GB of space for a gaming console? 60 should be enough really.

Why would it get old fast? That's just a silly comment...

Anyhow. Make sure whichever you get you pick up Valkyria Chronicles. Game is amazing.

Buy the 60GB PS3 and if you even need the extra space, upgrade the HD.

You'd soon get bored of the rather average Ps3 library and not be able to play the dozens of good titles from Ps2

Let's not get into a debate about it, but PS3 has a lot of great games. My shelf alone would keep you busy for a long time. Virtua Fighter 5, Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, MGS4, Sega Rally, Sega Superstars Tennis (very great game unfairly reviewed), and Little Big Planet.

I have a really small amount of games and it's kept me entertained for over a year. PS2 does have a lot of great titles though. You're right about that. I just disagree about the PS3 library lacking.

I guess there could be a lot of good ones for some people but backwards compatibility on a Ps3 is just too important to give up I think.

I had a 60 gig. Bought it for 200 dollars when they came out. Don't ask me how. My friend did some wheeling and dealing. Anyway, I used it for about a year and the BC was nice, of course, but not that important to me.

So seeing an opportuinity to make some profit I listed it on Amazon and, to my surprise, the thing sold for $999.

That's right. People will pay stupid money for a system, even though they could spend 150 on a PS2 and PS1, if the old games are that important to them.

Either way, my point is, if you want to play PS2 games then go buy an 80 dollar PS2. No big deal.

P.s. This generation of games has a lot of really quality titles. Saying otherwise is just elitist at best and ignorant at worst.
