I never was a fan of sega, actually sonic is one of the games that I never understood . Yet looking at sega time-line I think that company stand for two things:
innovation and business failure
I started to play dreamcast and I can't believe how innovative and different this system is. I mean I play these games for first time now and I see how they feel different and new next to current day games(the usual shooters) .
But do you think its time for sega to come back?
with the great monster sony falling way behind and losses that do not seem to be covered anytime soon, nintendo going the casual way(out of competition i guess), there is place for a 3rd console in the hart of the hardcore gamer.
So the only scary competition is microsoft, and even that is not selling like crazy, so there is a lot of chance.
All these years people are building demand for sega to come back, they want it to come back. As games seem to be clone of only two things(halo>a) sega maybe can offer the "different" thing now or next generation.
they have enough time to concentrate to see why systems are successful and what are their flaws, and bring something that consumers want.
this is just for the fun of discussing

Re: Fun Topic: Is it tme for sega to come back?
1. Sega have consistently failed to grasp market mechanics outside Japan. 2. They still suffer a stigma that has endured over a decade. 3. Nintendo did beat them to the 'broader mainstream market' thus leaving Sega no new cards to play. 4. Sega don't have much of the talent the defined them during the 80s and 90s. I'm simply glad they are still churning games under the Sega brand. For now let the market indulge itself in endless rehashes and sequels because gameplayers simply deserve no better.

I hope so Sonic unleashed looks amazing, Madworld is definetly promising and House of the dead overkill seems awsome also apparently theres rumors for Space channel 5 Wii
But honestly i think the best thing they can do is make an old fasioned console majority of parent's would buy their kids or teens for nostolgia of their mega drive days Aka stomring europe like they once did
and have a freakin 6 button set up *bliss*
honestly id say the SEGA Pheonix has a nice ring to it
this casual gamer stuff is bull crap Sega can see that i think first they need better management and stop hiring idiots to program for them theres to many developmental temas and only a tiny bit are good so dispose of the whole black knight garbage (honestly anyone else worried)
they need to act like there in the 90's again it captures everyones attention today when that happens it was such an exciting time!
anyway my rant for the day

I think they'd better produce a great new game before they even try to produce a great piece of new hardware. They haven't done that in quite a while.

What do you guys mean? I just picked up my awesome Sega Mercury last week, it's the first entirely imaginary console
Atari ST, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, Master System, NES, Mega Drive, 32X, SNES, Amiga CD32, Atari Jaguar, Saturn, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Xbox360, Wii
Gamegear, Lynx, Gameboy (100s of the bloody things), Game & Watches (coming out of my ears)

Sonic Unleashed, Madworld, Valkyria Chronicles, Nights journy into dreams and house of the dead OVERKILL i think are all brilliant games even if madworld or overkill hasnt been released yet they look extreamly promising =D
i say they assemble a new sonic team with some good creative minds and that understand what the public want, what a good game is and that graphics arnt everything.
I mean Sega could make a new Skies of Acradia, Burning Rangers or even a high def remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga for their new console and basing it of of arcade hardware would bring brilliant ports of arcade games whilst still focusing on good fun and quality gaming
or perhaps a new franchise they made new franchises every console they had so how about a new killer app apart from Sonic?

Frankly, I haven't seen any of those games yet (and some haven't even been released yet). I think they'd still have to have more of a stronger recent record of producing killer games before many people would have any interest in buying hardware from them. And think about it, who would be considering buying a new console? Folks who are adults now who used to own or wanted to own Sega CD, 32X, Game Gear, Nomad, CDX, Saturn and Dreamcast hardware none of which ever came close to creating a strong "gotta have" environment.MaliceValentine wrote:Sonic Unleashed, Madworld, Valkyria Chronicles, Nights journy into dreams and house of the dead OVERKILL i think are all brilliant games even if madworld or overkill hasnt been released yet they look extreamly promising =D

Now be honest, do you see Sega even being capable of competing finiancially and creatively with the likes of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft?

I think that sega should make a new piece of hardware, but release it at the right time unlike the dreamcast =.="
with arcades all over the world (except japan) dying i think sega could go for the snk move and make a system which would basically play like an arcade machine. You would have a lot of niche games but still the opportunity for mainstream games to make the system sell well.
Also they shouldn't do what snk/sony did and make there system cost a huge amount of money.
They don't need to go full casual gamer or hardcore gamer, they can make a system that is accessible by everyone, make it powerful enough to play well but be EASY to program
then they have 3rd party support, a wide market and a comeback into the gaming world which they will inevitably ruin with addons =.="
thats my idea anyway =D
