N64 passport 3
wondering if any one has any previous use of one of these i want to play and import (Sin and Punishment
) but need to know if its perfectly compatiable or just best emulating it?
Re: N64 passport 3
IIRC the N64s only region lock is a plastic tab in the cartridge slot that stops imported carts from fitting. Remove the tab with a dremel, and you have a region free N64. Since Japan uses NTSC, you shouldn't have a problem playing Sin & Punishment on your US N64.

Re: N64 passport 3
I've got a Nintendo 64 Passport Plus III, so I could play a couple PAL games and Japanese titles without having to hack up my 64. It works out pretty well(my television has some trouble with PAL games, unfortunately), but you're gonna need a boot cartridge. Super Mario 64 and Castlevania 64 apparently work the best.

Re: N64 passport 3
Im PAL Region so..does it work well here?
Re: N64 passport 3
To the best of my knowledge, it should be fine. I have trouble with PAL games on mine, but it's solely the fault of my television. If I hook my 64 up to anything else, not a problem at all. So as long as your TV isn't 15 years old, you should be cool. Just remember, you'll be needing a PAL boot cart, likely also Mario 64 or Castlevania 64.

well i do own all PAL games...i kinda live in Australia lol but hopefully this works ill try donkey kong 64 or something..never liked super mario 64 so dont own it!

Just be aware, whatever you're using as a boot cartridge, there is a slight chance all of your save data on that cart might be erased. I've never had it happen, but I figure I'd drop the warning anyway.

Always best to use a game that uses memory cart to save. I.E. Turok.Ack wrote:Just be aware, whatever you're using as a boot cartridge, there is a slight chance all of your save data on that cart might be erased. I've never had it happen, but I figure I'd drop the warning anyway.
Just to clarify. Removing the tabs on a PAL console will not allow it to play NTSC games, likewise removing the tabs on an NTSC console will not allow it to play PAL games. For these situations you need a passport to make the games boot.
