I picked up a model 2 Saturn yesterday (can't beat free stuff), and it's giving me problems.
It boots fine and the cd spins, but it just spins for awhile and eventually says it doesn't detect any disc. I know the games are fine, I already have a model 1 that they work with. My best guess is maybe the laser is dead, but that's no more than a guess. Is there any trouble shooting type things I can do, or any ideas in general?
Model 2 Sega Saturn won't read discs
Re: Model 2 Sega Saturn won't read discs
There is one thing you can do, To see if it is eye for sure. Unscrew the bottom there is 5 screws. There is a ribbon cable going from the motherboard to the cd-rom. Remove it completely then put it back. Making sure the ribbon is in there good. Then retry if it still says can't find disc then it is the eye. I cleaned my saturn the other night and I got that message. Turns on the ribbon wasn't in all the way. Good luck.

Ok I'll give that a shot. If it is dead do you know if it's possible to swap the drive with one from a model 1?

The only way i know you can do it. Is you must count how many things are on the end of the ribbon cable. If they are the same you can switch them.
