JAP 360 SHMUPS!!!

Post by bennythejet »

Hi all!!! I'll keep this short. I'm another one who's been thinking about getting a jap 360 purely to play some awesome 2d shooting goodness on it. Can someone list some (or all) of the available 2d shmups on the JAP 360 either retail or dlc and any titles that are due to be released in the near future?

Raiden Aces, Shikigami III and probably one more i'm forgetting are already out at retail. Also, you can get Ikaruga & Triggerhear Exelica for download from XBLA.

Ketsui, DeathSmiles, Otomedius & DoDonPachi: DaiOuJou Black Label EXTRA are still to be released.

No problem... I'm actually compelled to write up all of the XBLA titles as well. Also, I may have missed some disc-based titles; I won't pretend I know it all.

Here's a different sort of question: Any guesses as to which of these titles might go up in price in the coming years? Generally I've noticed most shmups don't seem to go up in price much, though many hover around the price they were released at. The big exceptions of course are Limited Edition releases, but even beyond that there are titles that go above their retail price years later, not even including titles like Radiant Silvergun. Under Defeat is one that comes to mind that I've had a hell of a time finding for even $70. But then, that was a postmortem Dreamcast release, so even it can't be a marker of what import shmups may cost in the years to come. Then again, Xbox 360 isn't exactly popular in Japan, so who knows how many copies are being produced for these titles.

Long story short, I have no plans to buy a Japanese 360 until many more price drops to come, but I wouldn't hesitate to order titles that may go up in price later on. But since I don't think that many would (Raiden Fighters Aces with Superplay, perhaps, and I couldn't care about the soundtrack with Raiden IV), plus the fact that there's speculation that some of these shmups may make it stateside, I'm wary about spending money on games I won't be able to play for the time being, and I'll always take the local release if it exists. I did get the Otomedius Gorgeous Hyper Stick Pro preordered though, so I've already stuck one foot in the water, so I figured I should look at other releases that I may be able to save a buck with by ordering them now instead of later when they go up to exorbitant prices.

Any speculation or advice is welcome.

I'd imagine the 3 upcoming Cave releases (DeathSmiles, DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra & Ketsui - Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra) will become quite pricey if the last wave of Cave console ports on the PS2 are anything to go by (Mushihime-sama for instance is selling for just under £80/$130 on ebay and thats not even the limited edition version), plus they generally have low production runs and the publisher 5pb are quite a small company.

My advice would be to purchase games you plan on actually playing. You could be making a lot more money by wisely investing in stocks, not shmups.
