Another generic G4 bashing thread

I don't have cable at home, but I've been house sitting for someone while they are away, and I've been watching G4 just to catch up on it's current state of suckage.

Did anyone see this crap on X-Play today where 2 episodes were for listing the top 10 games for PS2 and Xbox? This is G4, so what do you think won? That's right, GTA:SA and Halo 2. God, they just don't even try. The funny thing was, right before they said GTA:SA, they mentioned 50 Cent's game as being the worst on PS2 of all time, and from the video clips alone, you can clearly see that it's gameplay is actually LESS broken than GTA:SA and it was 10x more visually impressive. Way to make their case. I'm sure 50 Cent is still a terrible title, but compared to GTA:SA, a game which I can honestly say I had zero fun with in those 10 hours of torture, I think 50 Cent looks less painful to play.

I can't speak on Halo 2, but I have given Halo 1 half a dozen chances throughout the years, and each time, the only thing that comes to mind is "uninspired shooter".

X-Play has also degraded in other ways. If they insist on covering absolutely nothing factual in their reviews, and slap us in the face with pathetic gag after gag, then why can't they at least hire writers to make it funny? It's never funny. Fart jokes are better then this this. I see the new trend is the "TOASTY!" style joke. I kid you not, every single review, from the last 4 episodes I have seen, have contained 3 or more cardboard cutout celebrity portraits pop onto the screen, and say something extremely annoying. It just....doesn't...stop.

Plus today they did a feature on Yu Suzuki, so my dumbass was thinking that G4 would at least redeem itself a little with this, but it was terrible. They didn't even mention half of his great titles like Virtua Racing, Virtua Cop, and Propeller Arena. They also littered it with errors, like they clearly said that Shenmue 2 did not have an English dub for the Xbox version. I've read all over in reviews that it did. And they even had a clip where Ryo spoke english, during the cutscene 30 minutes into Shenmue 2 where he chases after the little kid who stole his shit. Uh, hello?

God, this just annoys me how unprofessional this entire channel is, even during the shows which try to appear professional, unlike 80% of the shows which are all about the MTV punk lifestyle, most of which involve a pair of tits reading cue cards to you. And I see all these shows they bought up, being advertised. Shows which have absolutely nothing to do with technology, like Arrested Development, and various anime blocks.

This is just me bitching, because I miss the old geek channel that used to educate me in the things that interested me. I don't think the problem is that I outgrew it and became too smart for it. I *know* that's not the case. So the only other answer is that the channel has become dumber, plain and simple. And I don't think G4 is entirely to blame here. TechTV was already showing signs of suckage about a year before the transfer. I remembers many moments where I was embarassed for the idiot casts of the shows like Screen Savers.

One day I was literally screaming at the Leo in my television, because the moron couldn't help a caller who wanted to know how to disable the password prompt when coming back from the screen saver. You would think a show called SCREEN SAVERS would know about SCREEN SAVERS! This is the shit that gives people ulcers.

I watch the XPlay podcasts -- that's about it.

The only good stuff on the old G4/techtv was X-Play, Icons, and Cinematech (when I was bored).
I never quite liked Screensavers. If I was a low-to-mid-level geek, it would be cool, but I already knew most of the stuff they talked about.

I used to watch it as well... and learned I was more a geek then I thought. It kind smashed my dreams of becoming Mr. Cool Guy. Now I'm just regular ol' nerdy turd Dyldo.

Gta sa is not entierly bad but what ruined for me that they took gta and for some reason added stats there is something wrong with worrying about eating right and going to the gym regularly just so you dont get fat in a VIDEOGAME. I could go on about the skll system in gta sa but instead i´ll say this Rockstar overcomplicated what was already a simple and fun game.

I must agree that G4 is not nearly as good as it once was. I did at one time quite like Screen Savers, Icons, and many of their other shows. Now I hardly really like much of any of them. They totally raped Icons and turned it into something not even remotely about games. The channel is completely littered with shows that, as you said, have nothing to do with technology.

I used to love G4, but then it went downhill. For a while there, anime unleashed was the only thing saving it for me(especially GAD GUARD, I love that, it's in my top 3.) but now I can't even have that. The entire network is turning to crap. I don't even WATCH the channel anymore(at least, IF and UNTIL they put anime unleashed with R.O.D or Gad Guard) I hope they go bankrupt.
