PS3 Sales down in Japan
PS3 Sales down in Japan
Well the PS3 is starting to slip in sales already and even in its own homeland. Let me see, high price of the system, no more backwards compatibilty, lack of exclusives. Yeah, i guess sony did it to themselves. What do other people think?

I think you're way off the mark on this one.

Aren't PS3 sales increasing everywhere else though as the price goes down?
Re: PS3 Sales down in Japan
i am not sure if playstation is going to outpace the 360
but it seems that the ps2 fans are moving up a generation to the ps3 as time goes by, and we know how many of those fans are out there. If they do, both wii and 360 are going to b be way behind.
btw, i am not ps fan, last ps I owned was broken back in like 98, last game i bought for it was around that time. i currently own both wii and 360,but truth is truth. That bluray player and stable hardware is sure more tempting that 360 high rate failure no bluray machine.

I guess they got too cocky. Anyways I wouldn't throw the white flag in yet for Sony. It could be that people can't afford to buy ps3 and are jsut saving up.

I don't think it helps that the PS2 is still getting really good games being made for it. Kinda gives you less incentive to upgrade to a non-backwards compatible PS3.

The high price point is always going to be a problem, but Sony would have to be totally blind to not realise this, so they must be keeping the current price point with good reason. PS2 backwards compatability isn't really a factor, as i'm guessing a sizable proportion of Japanese households own a PS2 anyways. The lack of exclusives is totally subjective, as there are plenty of exclusives this year, however most of them won't interest the Japanese (Resistance 2 & Motorstorm 2 for example, however LittleBigPlanet could be a wildcard - Famitsu have already scored it rather well, it just remains to be seen whether the public will take to it). I seriousley doubt Sony is worried, or they would've dropped the price already. If the situation is the same in a years time when the PS3 has White Knight Chronicles and the imminent prospect of PS3 exclusive Final Fantasy XIII (in Japan only), then the PS3 may be in trouble in Japan, but until then it seems theres little Sony can do to revitalize their 3rd place position.env963 wrote:Well the PS3 is starting to slip in sales already and even in its own homeland. Re: PS3 Sales down in Japan
I'm pretty tired of people dissing on the Playstation 3. It seems every week some Microsoft executive is razzing on the console (all a PR exercise to slam it into our subconciousness) and people just eat it up. I guess if someone tells you something enough times people believe it.
The truth is the Playstation 3 is building up momentum and is now hitting it's stride with a quality selection of games that appeal to a more broader audience set. I think the fact that Microsoft are now trying to downplay this with their "we are the winners of the console war" motifs is quite typical of them.
In anycase I'm not fussed, the number of generic 'hardcore' titles directed at Americans keeps me largely uninterested. Even when trying really hard (and this is by no means slanted with bias), I cannot think of more than 4 Xbox 360 titles that I would purchase. Of course this excludes the downloadable titles which there are many.
But overall the content on the Playstation 3 seems to hold much more substance than what is on the 360, so I am happy with my PS3. (Oh and hey, I can play those 4 games only for 360 on the PC anyways)
