So what PSP games do you guys recommend?
So now that I have one I'm wondering what games to grab for it. I play a little of everything, except sports games(though I dig wrestling games). I'm partial to rpgs, platformers and beat'em ups though. All I have right now is Valkyrie Profile(which I haven't played yet)and the awesome Castlevania Dracula X: Chronicles
Oh, and if anyone has played Mega Man X: Maverick Hunter, did they change anything from the Japanese version(like the intro)and is there an option to listen to the game in Japanese?

Monster Hunter for PSP is really popular in Japan, not so much in USA, but still, it looks fun, I may get it.
Daxter is pretty fun, though I'm stuck on the huge bee boss. Metal Gear Solid Portable ops is ok. Surprisingly, the games I play most are Wipeout Pure and Burnout Legends. Its a surprise because I don't play many racing games. Wipeout Pure is around 7 dollars at Gamestop, so if you like futuristic racing games like F-Zero I fully recommend it.

Loco Roco, Silent Hill Origins, Guilty Gear Judgement, Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts and Papaton are all highly recommended. There are a lot of great games for the PSP, its a shame it gets a bad rap about not having innovative software.

Darkstalker Chronicles is decent. I'm a casual fighting game fan, so I find the controls to be good enough, though I'm sure if you're really into your 2D fighters you wouldn't care for the PSP version. Yggdra Union is a great strategy game that really makes you think in a different way from previous strategy games. And I've also found that R-Type Command is surprisingly good. They somehow managed to combine R-Type with hex-based strategy.

A portable Silent Hill? That's interesting, I wonder what Ack would think of it.corn619 wrote:Loco Roco, Silent Hill Origins, Guilty Gear Judgement, Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts and Papaton are all highly recommended. The PSP does seem to get a bad rap. I've noticed that many retro gamers won't even give it a second look and rave about the DS. I'm not knocking the DS, but the PSP has re-makes and re-releases of some legendary, classic retro games like Dracula X:Rondo of Blood, Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy Tactics:The War of the Lions and Mega Man X:Maverick Hunter X. You'd think it'd get a little more love from the retro crowd, especially for taking Rondo of Blood and Valkyrie Profile out of Ebay Land.
Anyway, keep the suggestions coming guys. The PSP does seem to have quite a nice library

I dont know where it was but i posted about 50 or so of my favorite games for psp, frankly, i dont feel like writing that list again so take a look around, its not that old. If your wanting something that will hold you over for cheap Mercury Meltdown and Patapon are great.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: So what PSP games do you guys recommend?
The only good games of PSP that i can think
God Of War Chains Of Olympus
Daxter
Ratchet & Clank Size Matters
Dracula X Chronicles
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
Silent Hill Origins (but not nothing special here really)
Yes they exist some other somehow good games but they suffer for crap controls and/or are inferior ps2 ports. Others are remakes/ports of PS1 games which already can run.
It's sad but although PSP sells quite well http://www.vgchartz.com/ the truth is it doesn't have a strong library of games. I think the two reasons for this are
1) CFW.
2) Because of the PSP design you need to put a big budget if you want to make a good 3D game unlike the DS when you can go with low budget and make a good game, not mention the unique features the DS has which PSP doesn't and add some variety to the game library. Plus even if a company puts some money the lack of second analogue stick doesn't really help and limitations will arise.
Of course the PSP can have 2D games as well but developers seems they don't really interested about it.
From the other hand, the PSP strong points are homebrew, emulation and all other neat things it can do. Also it's a fantastic video portable player, yes i know the videos need conversion but personally i don't really mind.
Edit - Since you said you are interesting in wrestling games you might want to take look to Def Jam http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/ ... =def%20jam

Re: So what PSP games do you guys recommend?
I don't think they've been said so
Jean D'arc
Think Final Fantasy, but in the style of a Level 5 (Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud) RPG. Fantastic presentation, quality SRPG design. Try FF Tactics first, because that is better but if you enjoyed that then you'll definetly like this.
Ridge Racer
RR and it's sequel are sort of like 'bests of' for the series, where they throw together a bunch of remixed older content with some new stuff and so forth. There isn't much difference between the two titles, ideal choice if you are new to the series.
Wipeout Pure/Pulse
Much the same, but with all new content. Ideal if you have never been into this series. The game's vibe works to the strengths of the PSP, MP3 quality music, widescreen format etc.
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror/Logan's Shadow
I am a huge SF, yet I haven't played these two yet. They are meant to be very good if not best in the series, supposively better than MGS PO as well. I'd suggest that you give it a look see.
Also check out; Gradius Collection, Burnout Legends, Tekken Dark Resurrection, Lumines, Disgaea PSP, Star Ocean, Patapon and Crush. If you tally up the number of great games listed in this thread already then it honestly makes no sense why people trash the PSP so much, there are plenty of great titles for the system. Particularly games that appeal to long time players. I like both the DS and PSP, not sure why DS owners are so cock stubborn about their console being top dog.

All you need to know about PSP is Outrun Coast2Coast.
It is the best game on that system. Perfect balance of graphics, replay value, music, and challenge.
