So now that I plan on getting a PSP should I...

Post by Gamerforlife »

get the new 3000 model? I love all the features the PSP has including homebrew and emulation. I hear some people saying that the 3000 is hack-proof. Now here's the thing, I imagine that eventually they'll figure out how to hack it but I don't know that for sure.

The 3000 seems to have a much improved screen, which makes me want to get that version. However, I wouldn't want to lose out on playing classic emulated games on the go. Just the thought of being able to play MAME and Neo Geo games anywhere makes me drool. Should I just grab the 3000? Does anyone REALLY think they'll be unable to hack it in time.

And for the record, I DO intend to buy some retail games like Dracula X:Chronicles, Mega Man X:Maverick Hunter nd Ratchet and Clank so I'm not JUST getting a PSP for homebrew and emulation.

Honestly, I don't know how much better the 3000 screen will be than the 2000 screen. Personally, I find the 2000 screen to be just great.

If homebrew is a major selling factor for getting a PSP, I would suggest going with the 2000 version, as it's a known quantity.

id get the 3000, because there's no question that it'll be hacked. It's just a matter of when.

Another thing- the best game on PSP is Outrun Coast 2 Coast. Simply perfect.

If they close the Pandora loophole on the 3000 (since it's a hardware revision) then they'll have to go back to the drawing board on getting CFW on it.

Hmmm, maybe I'll get a 2000. I'm forgetting that it's usually a good idea to always stay a step behind with products anyway. Remember all the issues people had who bought the Xbox 360 at launch? I can always get a 3000 somewhere down the road for a cheaper price if I feel the need to upgrade. I can use the thirty bucks I'll save by getting a core 2000 system to get Dracula X: Chronicles. Can't wait to play SOTN with japanese voices and English text, the way it was meant to be. And TWO versions of Rondo of Blood, which I've never even played before. Awesome. Next year I'll probably grab a DS and Order of Ecclesia(glad they ditched the anime look)

I found some handy guides for modding a PSP. Doesn't seem that hard with a proper guide.

This is likely one of the primary motivations for remodeling the PSP. It's no different than Nintendo's changes for the DSi... removing the GBA port cripples the hacks, and while they were at it, they just went ahead and added region coding to their handheld.

Why have I not gotten this for my PSP yet? Amazon 1-click just solved that.

Yeah, the hard part is getting the guide. Once you get that (and a Pandora battery) it's pretty smooth sailing.

Damn, that German voiced intro is GORGEOUS!!

So yeah, I'm playing Rhondo of Blood. Good stuff. I got the 2000. It's funny, even the guys at the Gamestop were like, "yeah, they just put out the 3000 to stop hacks. It's not much of an improvement over the 2000".

I did find some articles on customizing the PSP with custom firmware and some kind of battery. I just thought I'd ask you guys if you could recommend a trustworthy site that covers this stuff. I don't want to accidentally get some corrupted firmware or "brick" my PSP.

Here's what I did to get CFW on my PSP.

First I went here:

http://www.consolespot.net/forums/psp-h ... rsion.html

Download the full version, and download the firmware version that matches what you want in the dropdown (will be an EBOOT.PBP fille). You'll need to google for the official firmware EBOOT file, for example, search for 4.01 official PSP firmware. Put your memory stick in your PSP, put it in USB mode, run the utility (backing up any saves you have). This gives you the files you need to install the CFW.

Next, you need to get a Pandora battery. There are two kinds of Pandora batteries. A hard mod battery is a battery that has been physically altered, and cannot be reverted to a normal battery. You can purchase these online for around $20, which is the route I took. There is also a soft mod battery, which requires a hacked PSP. I am not familiar with how to create a soft mod battery. The good thing about it is once you hack your PSP, you can revert it to a standard battery again.

Once you have it, load in the Pandora battery and the memory stick you created and turn on the PSP while holding down the L button. Follow the onscreen prompts and you're good to go.

yeah, the 3000 will eventually get hacked, its just a matter of when and how hard. Really, the earlier model you get the easier it will be to hack. just downgrade to 1 then install the custom firmware.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?
