Which game?

Post by Pingfa »

I've just came across a post elsewhere that posed the question:

"OK so you've just been sentenced to solitary confinement for the remainder of your life. Sucks, I know, but hey I don't make the rules and you're the one who committed a crime or something. Aside from daily meals all you get is a 15' tube tv and a super nintendo. With the SNES you must choose ONE game that you can play for the rest of your life. This will be your only form of entertainment other than pondering why you went down a path of crime.

Will you choose a beloved rpg? Or will that get boring too fast? Perhaps a strategy/puzzle game?

Alright you criminals its time to list the one game to entertain them all... err I mean you... forever--- GO!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Naturally, common answers were "Zelda" and "Chrono Trigger"

Don't restrict it to SNES. I'd like you all to give it some thought and answer honestly.
If it were me, I can guarantee I wouldn't pick an RPG - I like RPG games, but having to go through the same story, dialogue and same old steps over and over for the rest of your life seems darn tedious to me.
Course, if you only have one game to play for the rest of your life, it's going to be that way regardless, but for me, personally, an RPG wouldn't cut it.

Curious to hear your answers is all.

Final Fantasy 6. Having willingly spent so much of my life playing through it so many times, I don't think it would bother me so much.

Though to be honest, I'd probably spend a lot more time in the prison library than on the SNES.

I just shrugged the prison part off as irrelevant - I'm just curious as to what single game people would pick to play for the rest of their lives - not necessarily a big chunk of it, mind you. Figure there might be a gem I don't know of among the bunch.

If you'd like, imagine you're in prison; but it isn't a necessity.

If anyone finds it too difficult, you can feel free to just add a few potentials.

I'm thinking I'd probably choose a strategy game. Each game widely varies. Maybe one of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, or Age of Empires III.

I found out about a [PC] game not too long ago called Mount & Blade, which might be a worthy contender. The battles are epic!

Super Metroid is possibly my favourite SNES game. It'd have to be a contender.

Hmm. Alright, let's loosen it up a bit: If you like, you could do it by genre.

On the one hand, I'd consider Super Metroid. I'd work on speed running it, seeing if I can drop myself below 1 hour.

Then there's Earthbound. The problem there is I don't think I could play it over and over. I'd do something like play through it, leave it alone for a month, then repeat.

Next is Disgaea 3, which has so much stuff to do in it. I can easily see myself getting into the hundreds of hours on my first playthrough. The gameplay is a little samey, though. And most of the gameplay is after the story parts, so I wouldn't be able to enjoy the story that much.

Wait, this just dawned on me. Rock Band. Toss in all the DLC, and you have massive amounts of gameplay in there. Nothing quite like seeing if you can drum as good as Neil Peart. I gotta go with Rock Band.

I would probably choose something from the Sonic Genesis series, or to prevent myself from limiting the choice I might go with like Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn, which had a few of them. Of course making my decision based on which collection played best. I remember hearing that the PS2 ports of the Gamecube Sonic Collection sucked, so I'd want to compare GC to Saturn, but point in case I can always play Sonic.

That's a really really tough one...

I'd either say Sonic 3 + Knuckles (if you consider that one game, I do)

or Pikmin

Those are probably my all time favourite games. It'd suck though, because those game would get boring very fast... I'd have to play them for a week, then put them down for a month, then play them for a week.

Really for replayability I'd have to go with a puzzle game. In that respect I'd probably go with Lumines Live, my all time favourite puzzle game! Would I be able to download update packages for my Lumines Live???

But even then that'd get boring. I'm sorry, I couldn't JUST play videogames for the rest of my life. I need a lot more variety then that. I mean come on, in prison I get books, other inmates to talk too, there's usually the lounge area with a busted ass air hockey table and all those shitty goodies you get to beat your peers up over. So yeah, Any of those three I named would keep me happy because I know if I get bored I have plenty other things to go for me...

wait, nevermind, you said solitary confinement. Damn, sorry, there's nothing in this world that make solitary confinement any better then it is bad. Really I think having a videogame there would remind me even more how much freedom is great, and probably perpetuate my desire to just hang myself by my shoe laces.

Oh and screw the SNES... ugh, I can't stand that machine!

Not my words. I said that part was irrelevant.
Also, I noted it wouldn't necessarily take up a large chunk of your life; it'd just be the one game you could ever play, whenever you feel like it, for the rest of your life.

I do. That's actually one of the first games that came to my mind, but I've spent plenty on it already, and I could easily imagine it getting boring soon.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 tends to lose my interest on the Oil Ocean level.

Anyhow, I think it'd have to be a strategy game or Mount & Blade (which is in itself a strategy game). I never get tired of 'em.
I probably would pick a puzzle game, but I barely know any...

Something like Sim City 3000 for me.

Got to have replayability!!

Sorry, I've never played a game that has that kind of staying power. Any game would get boring eventually if you're playing it every day for the rest of your life.
