Wii version of Resident Evil 4 the worst version of the game

Post by Gamerforlife »

Okay, I haven't played the Wii version of the game, but I have played the Gamecube and PS 2 versions. However, from what I've seen on forums, it sounds like the Wii version removes much of the game's challenge. It seems like the once challenging Mercenaries mode is now much easier since you can aim faster and you can aim while on the move. The shooting gallery mini-game is apparently cake now too since you no longer have to worry about the challenge of slowly, manually aiming your laser sight on the target within the limited time that you have. Plus, now you get a big green circle on the Wii version instead of the small red laser sight. Being able to aim quickly and accurately with the small laser site was part of RE 4's challenge and it seems like the new Wii controls make this aspect of the game a non-issue.

I haven't even mentioned the overpowered P.R.L, which is stronger in the Wii version than the PS 2 one. It sounds like the Wii version could have been called Resident Evil 4:Easy Edition. What do you guys think? Is that a good thing or bad thing? It seems like the Wii version is not the way the game was meant to be played. I brought up this topic because I hear a lot of people refer to the Wii version as the DEFINITIVE version. Is that true if this version of the game removes much of the game's challenge? It seems like the Gamecube version retains the game's original challenge(no Wii controls, no Ashely armor, no P.R.L.)What do you guys think?

If decent aiming means an easier game, then what's the issue? I see it as the game being flawed originally, and now it's fixed. Good for them. It's still a sorry excuse for a Resident Evil title. It was already pussy easy on Gamecube, so what's the difference?

Wii Edition is the best version...I have actually played using both control schemes

the only changes I would make to the Wii edition:

-rifle aiming with the Wii remote
-true 16x9 widescreen
-a difficulty setting harder than Pro (faster enemies, less ammo)
-a few additions to Mercenaries (optional harder difficulty, more random enemies, and a survival/no-time-limit mode)

I like the Wii version best, actually.

And I'd say that it's the best for anybody, because you have the option of either using the Wii controls, or plugging in a Gamecube controller and doing it that way (with the laser sight and everything intact).

When RE4 shifted the focus from picking and choosing your battles to being able to take out most everything in your path, albiet intelligently, that was when a Wii style control scheme made the most sense for the gameplay.

Well I forgot that using the original Gamecube controls was an option

I don't view the old scheme as flawed, as you put it Mozgus. The game's gunplay was designed as you'd expect for a console. It seems like the Wii controller gives you the speed and accuracy of a PC game with a keyboard/mouse set up, which I just figured makes the game a bit easier than originally intended as players were probably not expected to be able to aim with that kind of speed and accuracy. Of course, I'm sure Capcom didn't care as releasing the game FOR THE THIRD TIME meant cha ching. And you pretty much can't release a Wii game without it using the Wii's controls. It's like a rule now.

I don't view the Gamecube version as stupidly easy either. Some of the bosses are tough and getting high scores on Mercenaries is a challenge. Pro difficulty also amps up the difficulty and the game even has a subtle difficulty adjustor that tries to match a player's skill level. From what I hear, it sounds like the Wii version is the stupidly easy one, which was the point of this topic.

I guess it's all subjective though. I have actually heard some people say that they hate the Wii controls, but most people seem to indicate that it makes the game much easier.

The Wii version is the definitive edition. It has everything from both the PS2 and Gamecube versions. It has the ability to be played with the GC controller. It also has the superior Wii controls and it has better visuals to boot.

I hated the original Resi games purely for their shit controls. I hated all those sodding games with that stupid tank control scheme that the PS1 was absolutely plagued by. The best thing that happened to the PS1 was the N64 being released. Before then the PS1 had awful controls for 3d games. Take a look at Croc. Jeez, were those controls shit. When Mario 64 came out all the devs seem to think. "Oh shit, we can do 3d controls in relation to the camera! Why the fuck didn't we think of that before?". Yet capcom seemed to just stick a huge v-sign up to that notion and kept the awful tank controls. I mean there wasn't a fucking quick turn until Resident evil 3. WTF?! Well Resi 4 has tank controls but at least it's in relation to the camera.

Tank controls always felt like playing the game in a mirror to me. Completely un-intuitive.

the Wii version is easily best - I have all 3 -(I bought the PS2 one to laugh :p )

Apart from the fact that its the superior GC graphics with all the PS2 bonus content, the main thing for me is that I can use RGB SCART on my Wii, whereas these were very rare for the GC

I thought the PC version was supposed to be the worse. Supposedly it doesn't support a mouse natively, you have to install mods for it.

Because it totally had mouse control on Cube and PS2.
