i've been debating it for sometime what my fave fighting game is. I've been playing them since their inception...
For 3d soulcalibur (tekken3 being a very close second)
and for 2d, capcom vs snk 2. not sure why this is i simply haven't found a 2d game that has me deeper into it than this one.

I'm not a big 3d fan,
Bloody Roar 2 is close enough to 3d
good game
fav 2d
was guilty gear hand down but I've been playing a lot of arcana heart and it's making a move on most played.

Re: my fave fighter
Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting. Definitely my all-time favourite.
I've been playing more SF3: Third Strike lately however, because it's a bit more popular around here and easier to get groups of people together to play. My local arcade has SF4 in it which is getting some attention. I play it just because the competition is there, but it's not as enjoyable as the older games.
I'm not into 3D fighters at all, nor these new generation dial-a-combo fighters.

well tekken 3 has interesting characters and cinematics, that was the entry point for me. after getting used to the characters the combo and move system is good. a lot of fun with my friends.
sf3 for me is hard to get into there are few characters i truly like in there (ibuki rocks tho) and in comparison to other fighters, other than the gorgeous animation its kinda bleh. guilty gear x and other capcom titles seem to trump it on interest level alone because of the cool characters.

SF3:3S is a very deep game. Coming from HF and ST, I had a real hard time getting into it. But once you work out the system, and more importantly how to parry properly AND integrate that into your attacks properly, it opens up to something rather wonderful.gennss wrote:sf3 for me is hard to get into there are few characters i truly like in there (ibuki rocks tho) and in comparison to other fighters, other than the gorgeous animation its kinda bleh.
Oh, and I should also mention Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It's the only SNK game I stand half a chance at, and I love it. Although I'm really looking forward to KOF XII!
Re: my fave fighter
I really don't liked 3d fighters, but if I had to chose a few favourites, Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter 5 would be high up the list.
2d fighters are much more enjoyable imo - my favourite has to be Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, it took me years to fully appreciate the game and to finally abandon Alpha 3 to concentrate solely of 3rd Strike; mainly because I didn't understand half the system and hated more than half of the characters - I still don't like alot of the characters (Q, Oro, Twelve, Necro etc), but the depth and enjoyability of playing 3rd Strike with my friends (who have also been playing it for years) is unsurpassed by any other 2d fighter.
Some of my other favourites include; Last Blade 1 & 2, Astra Superstars, Capcom vs SNK 2, Hyper Street Fighter II: Anniversary Edition, Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

For 3D fighters, it's Soul Calibur on Dreamcast. Yeah, I know, I go on and on about Virtua Fighter, but at the end of the day, Soul Calibur was always my favorite.
For 2D, it's a tie. Street Fighter Alpha 2 on SNES, because it's a quality game, it looks great for a SNES title and sounds good(though neither graphics or sound are as good as other versions), and it has the nostalgia factor of being the first fighting game I ever owned. I spent days in that game learning to use every character, to the point I could beat that game on the hardest difficulty with almost everyone(I still don't understand how to use Zangief).
The other choice would be Marvel vs. Capcom. Great cast, great gameplay, bizarre music and visuals(the loading screens for instance). I've probably logged more hours into this title than any other fighting game. This is also the title that got me to start playing as Morrigan.

Guilty Gear...
I like Virtua Fighter 4 for 3D and, if I owned a copy, I may say Weaponlord would be a fav of mine as well...
