Dreamcast only stays powered on when lid is open.

Post by pompeyparsons »

This is a new problem to me has anyone every encountered this or possibly know what the problem is?

The system stays up and running while the lid is open but shuts off when you close the lid and will not power back on unless you keep it unplugged for at least 5 min.

I don't believe its an overheating issue as the system is not hot what so ever and I have it elevated. I'm at a loss of what the problem could be.

Wow, the 5 minute part has me puzzled. Sounds like something is being shorted out. Very strange. All I could suggest is taking the top shell off, and experimenting with the lid switch button that way. Hope it's not something complicated like the GDROM being faulty and not sapping the appropriate power when activated.

I've been pretty busy lately but I'm going to crack it open this weekend and see if I can't get it going again.

Mozgus: After doing some reading I think it may be the GDROM but I'll give it a check.

Thanks guys.

FWIW, i had a dreamcast that would die shortly after it started spinning the GD rom, and that one ended up just being a bad power supply.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.
