Would you guys rather buy the originals, or just get a modchip and burn the games. I've been thinking hard about this lately.
Original
Pros
You have the original CD case and booklet.
It looks nicer
You will probably feel an accomplishment having the originals
Cons
Probably using more money buying them
If the game breaks that's it, more money comes out.
Copies
Pros
A lot less money.
If the game breaks , burn another, simple.
Probably have much more games in a faster time
Less hassle getting them
Cons
Looks bad having copies and not originals.
No manuals
No game cases.
Chances of the modchip not working anymore.
If swapping it can ruin the system if you do it too much
Probably wont feel much of an accomplishment.
Which would you guys RATHER have?
I want the collection of the originals but it gets hard.
But I also want a modchip because it can get easier, and less money.
but it sucks when you look at it and say damn I wish i had the original case and manual.
I had a mod chip, but after a while it sort of just stopped working.
I'm talking about sega saturn by the way.

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
I have zero interest in owning copies, wouldn't even take them if someone gave them to me free. I have probably around 400 games, all but a few Game Gear games are complete originals. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
And I know that it feels good to actually say that.
I want to do the same. I own a lot of games myself.
But when I got my saturn I was like in second grade and I couldn't handle cds properly.
and I have a saturn but the cd drive thing doesn't open properly.
So recently I bought a new one and I want to buy all the originals. but waiting on the games can get annoying.
I have to ebay most of them.

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
When owning a game gives money to the developer and is most practical, I like to own physical copies of my video games. However, there's little point in giving collectors gobs of money for a game that's going to end up being shelf candy.
As far as your Sega Saturn collection goes - since you don't have any sort of collection now, forget about building one. Sure, it will look nice on a shelf, and many of us will give you a pat on the back when you post pictures of your game room. But how much time do you spend looking at your games compared to actually playing them?
Now, do you really want to save up money to buy old games when you could use it to buy new ones and actually support the developer?

I must say you do have a good point..
But going through the hardships to build one, then actually getting it would be such a good feeling.

I like to buy games, but when your on a budget you cant always play the games you want, so I burn them. I mostly play copies just because I don't want to wreck the originals. So actually I like both. Owning copies really costs nothing so just buy games and then play copies so your collection still looks pretty but you're not wrecking it.

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
i buy originals whenever possible, but if a game is too hard for me to find, I'll find a copy...
even if I have a pretty rare game, I'll play the original...i'm a collector, but in the end i buy games to play them...

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
Hey hey hey, don't get me wrong. I'm buying to play them.
Seems that some of you are thinking I'm just doing it for the collection.
I'm going to play them but I think I want the originals.
and a action replay for japs.
I really don't want to even open up this Saturn
I might end up buying another mod chip though, but then again I don't think so.
The thought of having an UN-modded Saturn and a collection of originals just seem better.
I also want to buy all the accessories such as, the stunner guns, steering wheels, fighter sticks.
I want to go all out for the Saturn, I guess it's because haven't really had much experience with it because I was
so young, and broke my games quickly.
But I guess that's another story.
hahaha BTW, you guys are probably saying "who is this guy anyway?"
My name is mike, and you guys will probably see a lot more of me.
So hello fellow board members!!

Re: Copies Vs The Original ?
For me.. about 80% of my CD/DVD consoles are chipped or flashed one way or another. I like the options of playing homebrew games/apps and playing games that I would most likely not buy for one reason or another.
Older CD based consoles.. I buy games that I love and then put them on a shelf and play burned copies of it. I also burn games to see if they are worth my time/money to buy..
Newer DVD based consoles.. I love the feeling of playing a game 2 weeks before its released and then buying it when it comes out or realizing it was a crappy game and only out the price of media and not a $60 game.
I have always stated that I am a collector of Hardware and accessories and not game media. I only buy games that "mean" something to me or has great replay value. I burn others just to try them out and make my judgment. I got tired of driving to Blockbuster back in the day so I decided to go with burns as a "try before you buy" tool.
