Re: Vert vs. Hori
While I love both varieties and find that hori vs vert makes less difference than what the devs bring to the table when designing the game content, I have a fondness for vertical shooters.
And I voted for horizontal accidentally because I can't ever remember which is which. And it won't let me change my vote. Bastard poll.
My fondest memories of shooters are with verts. Raiden, Raiden 2, Blazing Lazers, the Soldier/Caravan games on PC Engine... Verts are just more my style, for the most part.

My fondest memories are of hybrids. You should have them as an option.
Stinger (Twinbee 2)
Legendary Wings
Salamander
Axelay
I like the change of pace they bring to the table.

Re: Vert vs. Hori
Vertical shooters are my preference, but they are far from being my exclusive favorite. I enjoy Ikaruga, Karous, and Psyvariar immensely. Simultaneously, new(er) horizontal shooters like Gradius V, Trouble Witches, and Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer are occupying a great deal of my time lately.

Verts only for me
I play horizontal occassionally, but I just don't really like them compared to vertical.

Re: Vert vs. Hori
I vote vert all the way....And to just throw this out there why do so many people love Axelay? I have owned this game for years and it is so FREAKING HARD and the controls seem so slow to respond! Before you write me off as some "omg shooter noob" I can complete Ikaruga without getting hit once on normal and can finish radiant silvergun with just 3 continues.I just don't know, maybe it's because I didn't get big into shooters until ikaruga came out for dreamcast and it just feels dated. Just thought i would throw that out there! maybe I'll start an Axelay hate club and send fans hate mail on a daily basis lol

I like Axelay. I don't love it. I just mentioned it because I like the change of pace - switching between vert and hori.

I like everything to be vertical.

The verts are pulling ahead. Not completely unexpected...
