I stopped visiting that site quite a while ago, but as I have a cold and had already browsed all the usual places, I'm just looking for something to do.
Anyhow, be warned: it's pretty much the usual attempt at Old-Wizard being 'cool' by making an unorthodox list.
Now I do have opinions on these games, and I do agree with some of them, but I'll refrain for now.
Shoot away.
Top 10 Most Overrated Games
Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
Alright, I'll shoot.
GTA: San Andreas is the worst game on the list. It's not a very good game.
Gunstar Heroes is great, but probably overrated.
Mario 64 is overrated.
M'kay. Care to shoot back?

Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
Wait... who over rates Pokemon Red/Blue? I never hear anyone talk about it.
Personally, I enjoyed Pokemon Blue to no end - I bought it right as it came out, long before any 'pokemania' took hold. I'm not a pokemon person. No t-shirts, videos, toys or cards. I was far too old (still am, older even!) to be interested in it past a video game.
And it was a good video game.
Surprised to hear it being described as 'overrated'. I would have called it 'unrated'.

Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
i admit i never really liked sonic 3 that much
Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
I am shocked not to see the entire Halo series on this list. But then again, I know that these guys really lack any credibility and try to get hits solely based on insulting people. So I take everything they write with a grain of salt. Plus, if you enjoyed the game, who cares what they think?
GTA: San Andreas was great though, because they let me do drive-bys on a riding lawnmower. Plus it had the best April Fool's Day joke ever. Somebody claimed you could find Bigfoot. Instant win.

Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
Good points for each of the games mentioned. Just nothing strong enough to make them the "10 most overrated games"
Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
I agree. Although most people are embarrassed to admit it due to the Pokemon craze, I'm sure most everybody got some enjoyment out of it.NotBlaine wrote:And it was a good video game.

The cards were especially a hit... over here, kids were known to steal other kids Pokemon cards, so in one school (maybe more, I don't know), they were actually banned!
I don't know how popular among children it is now, but my little cousin and his friends are still crazy about Pokemon.
--------------------------------------
As for Sonic 3... I can get some enjoyment out of any of the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Genesis. The level design in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is definitely superior, albeit, at times, shall we say... misleading.
Personally, I believe lists of overrated games are asinine because I don't believe you can 'overrate' a game - I know, I know; my last post was just to get you all started, silly.
Really, people have their own preferences. Unless the game is literally unplayable due to glitches or any other similar issues, I believe everyone can get enjoyment out of any game. I read a thread once where four or five different people referred to Shaq Fu as a classic game.
If someone enjoys a game, I don't see how they can 'overrate' it.

I was shocked nobody mentioned it, I may stand by it, but the rest of the internet sure as hell doesn't.Ack wrote:I am shocked not to see the entire Halo series on this list.

Hmm... I did enjoy Halo in the past, but I think it is lacking in the replayability factor. A one-timer, if you will... Halo 1 kept me occupied for quite a while; I used to have 3-4 versus games and I was always first (well... I might have lost that title once or twice).Ack wrote:I am shocked not to see the entire Halo series on this list.
Lost its spark now, though.
As it happens, in general, I don't enjoy the FPS genre. The only two that have kept me interest are Call of Duty 4 and Halo. I can't envisage me picking up and playing Halo again anytime soon, but I would like to try out Halo 3.
Certainly not buying an Xbox 360 for it, though.
Re: Top 10 Most Overrated Games
I can't really agree with a single game on the list - every game on there i've enjoyed and while they may not be some of my favourite games, I can certainly understand why they are rated so highly - the author clearly doesn't and some of his reasoning in this article is just laughably ridiculous.
Let me save anyone else the trouble of reading that complete joke of a list;
10. Earthworm Jim - Ignoring any advances the game made to the platforming genre, the author doesn't like this game because it's apparantly boring to play and nothing about the game grabbed him. Oh, he also thinks Aladdin is shit, which obviousley makes his already questionable opinion null & void when it comes to 16 bit platforming games.
09. Prince of Persia - Again, ignoring the advances it introduced to gaming, PoP earns a place on the list because apparantly the jump delay sucks and the author can't figure out the fighting controlls because the author is a chimp.
08. Resident Evil 4 - Dull levels, not scary, enemies apparantly not different enough from Ghosts n Goblins.
07. Tomb Raider - According to the author, Tomb Raider is nothing more than nerd pr0n disguised as a bland shoot-em-up. Oh, and it's ugly.
06. Sonic 3 - Sonic 2 was great, but apparantly Sonic 3 does nothing new, is more of the same and has shit music.
05. Mario 64 - Hard to control, not as memorable as other Marios, only so highly regarded because of new age graphics.
04. GTA San Andreas - Cities are too big, gameplay is too slow, radio less interesting than real life radio.
03. Gunstar Heroes - Tries to be sophisticated but fails, boring, poor weapons compared to Metroid...oh, and it's SEGA.
02. Shining Force - Nintendo 16bit Action/Traditional RPG fan doesn't like SEGA SRPG, shock horror. Clearly never played a comparable SRPG on the SNES...because there are about 2 worth mentioning, and both weren't released outside of Japan. WAAAAAAAAAAAAH IT'S TOOO HARD FOR ME!! WAAAAAAAHHH!
01. Pokemon Red & Blue - Too cute, no depth.
He should have just called it '10 games people really like, but I don't' and his site should be called 'Shitting on things for page hits'.
