Jet Grind Radio: Garam's Third Challenge

Post by racketboy »

Just wanted to ask everyone about this once you get to it.
After a few levels a new character by the name of Garam will challenge you. His first couple aren't too bad, but his third one will challenge most people.
I remember it being pretty hard my first time.

This time it still took me about 15 tries or so.

How many tries did it take you?

Is that the one with the wall grind? yeah that took me over an hour to do. The game sure is punishing, something I normally find appealing, but JSR pushes the limit a little early really

Most of it involves jumping between a few rails consecutively that are kinda scattered.

Yeah that the one, the jumps need to be fast and accurate if I remember right. Ironic that he seems the best character for noobs.

Guys, I managed on the 4th attempt (and that counts the 2nd attempt, I fell on the water right at the start without hitting the first rail, which sort of shouldn't count :) He he I'm a n00b).
I was using Beat.

For me the only tricky part is the jump to the last rail*, as you not only need to land on it but you can't land too forward as that will make you miss the wall. On the third try I did land on the rail, but didn't have time to jump to the wall.

I'm sort of surprised Paulie needed 10 tries after clearing the tutorial. I got 30 tricks on the tutorial and that was certainly WAY harder than this, the rail to rail jumps in the tutorial are very extreme, you really need to cover much more space. I'd still like some tips from Paulie to clear the Tutorial, I can't figure out how to do turn arounds consistently and can't get to the 50 tricks part because of that.

* Insert obligatory "Well, that and the first jump to grind" joke here.

to do the jumping turn arounds just press jump very quickly before he turns round i find the jumping turn arounds very hit or miss as i'll only land them 70% of the times. to consistently do a turn around it is best to go in a straight line and speed up then push up and down as quickly and as straight as you can which is a bit awkward on the dreamcast's analogue stick

I got it in about 6 attempts. As Ivo pointed out - the trickiest part was third rail jump to wall grind.

Seems like it's a good way to complete challenges as they are presented - they are teaching you skills that you will need further in the game - like the third Garam challenge - it's all about rail to rail jump timing - which is essential on the next stage.
