I just brought this game up in a different post and it compelled me to ask this to you folks.
I read some stuff online about eternal sonata after i played it to see what everyone else thought of it. As far as critics go it got good reviews. Ign is usually my goto site for reviews and they liked it. But when i was reading actual cmmunity opinions i found out that many people really hated it.
I thought it was amazing. It was such a different kind of rpg, never seen anything like it. It wasnt overly gimmicky or annoying, fun combat, great story in my opinion. I was just wondering if any of you guys had played and if so what you thought of it?
and if you havent played it and you have a 360 i highly recommend it.

Re: Eternal Sonata
I played the demo and thought it looked stunning. But overall the game seemed good but the reviews kind of put me off the game. I get the impression that it's a well made game but the story is your typical Jap RPG fare.
These days there are so many great games out there that need playing and not enough time.

Re: Eternal Sonata
The reason i liked it so much was because the story wasnt typical at all.
latest ive never heard of a story that is based on the dreams of a famous composer on his death bed.

I'm usually not either, but from what I can tell from the demo, it seems like a good balance between action and turn based combat. Very cool way of doing it that I really liked a lot.gennss wrote:im not fond of action based combat systems. unlike you'll find me playing many current gen rpg's.
Re: Eternal Sonata
I personally found the combat to get a bit boring later into the game, and I was getting sick of all the cutscenes so I gave up on it - I might re-buy it when the PS3 version comes out and have another stab at completing it.

I'm waiting for it to come out on PS3, although I had rented the 360 version and it was a visual feast for the eyes.

Re: Eternal Sonata
I'm playing and enjoying it. The battle engine takes getting used to, and they unfortunately change it every time I DO start to get used to it, but it's still fun game, visually and aurally stunning, and the plot is way different than anything I've seen before. Yes, there's the overlay of the composer on his death bed, but you also have the story of sick people being able to perform magic and being social outcasts, the stigmatization of herbal remedies, and the general anti-capitalism subplot. Very well done so far at least.

Re: Eternal Sonata
The turn-based/real-time hybrid battle system became boring after eight or nine hours. Really, since all you have is your battle system, presentation, and story, getting bored with any one of those can easily kill my interest in a jRPG. The story was a little different, not too typical, but the graphics, sound, and general ambiance was AAA.
Most hardcore jRPG folk who don't have a problem with and active battle system should love it.
