Art of Fighting vs. Fatal Fury
which do you think is better? a buddy of mine has both the anthologies on the ps2 that he wants to sell and i was thinking of getting one from him. i never really gave 2d fighting games a chance because i always hated mortal combat. so are either of these worth checking out?

Yes they're worth checking out, though I'd say stick with the SNES titles....mainly for the nostalgia factor. While they're quality games, Fatal Fury did include the lane system and a more interesting game, in my opinion, though that does come down to personal conjecture. Also the lane system's new so it's not quite "there" in terms of gameplay. I feel it can be a hindrance sometimes. Also, Art of Fighting 2, while on the Super Famicom, never made it to our shores, so take the time to check it out.
And what's on the Fatal Fury collection? I'm guessing 1 and 2, but did Special make it on? That game is awesome.

Re: Art of Fighting vs. Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury is a 2D fighter, but with two planes to fight on. Basically your L and R buttons will serve to jump and attack between the two lanes, which are represented as you jumping to higher or lower locations on the stage. It's meant to give a pseudo-3D effect. Just be aware, sometimes there is no second lane and you might get hurt trying to jump there. It's a nice way to keep one on his toes.

Re: Art of Fighting vs. Fatal Fury
Seeing that Terry Bogard is the coolest protagonist ever in a fighting game and Geese Howard is the coolest antagonist ever in a fighting game, I would say Fatal Fury. But if you are a big fan of huge sprites get Art of Fighting. Also, here is some reference material.

Re: Art of Fighting vs. Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury is more accessible, but the original Art of Fighting can be lots of fun. There's just something about having to charge for your specials, watching your character get beaten up (and show it with bruising on their faces), and finally mastering that damn Haou-ken. Oh, and you can't forget the triangle kicks.
